The race was a nail biter, with Grand Valley State senior\u00a0<strong>Leonie Van Noort\u00a0<\/strong>pacing just behind Wright\u00a0and almost catching her with a monster 27.18 final 50. Van Noort also got under the old NCAA record, finishing in 9:49.18. That makes both women the first Division II athletes under 9:50 &#8212; the previous record was held by Southern Connecticut State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kristen Frost\u00a0<\/strong>at 9:50.49.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore\u00a0<strong>Caroline Jouisee\u00a0<\/strong>from Delta State University rounded out the podium, finishing 3rd in 9:52.73 after leading at the halfway point.\u00a0Senior <strong>Theresa Hayward\u00a0<\/strong>from West Chester was the fastest out of this morning&#8217;s heats and\u00a0moved up to 4th with her 9:54.83, giving the Golden Rams two scorers in the top junior\u00a0<strong>Franco Lupoli\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the top of the podium in the men&#8217;s 1000 free, finishing in 9:01.02 to hold off Drury freshman\u00a0<strong>Joan Casanovas<\/strong>, who finished 2nd\u00a0in 9:02.71. The two were close throughout the race, with the two nearly even at the 500 mark. But Lupoli was able to creep away in the second half of the race to give himself enough cushion to hold off Casanovas fast closing 50 of 25.58.<\/p>\n<p>Simon Fraser sophomore\u00a0<strong>Mackenzie Hamill\u00a0<\/strong>made it on the podium from the morning hears, finishing\u00a03rd in 9:05.80, as did\u00a0Queens&#8217; senior\u00a0<strong>Dion Dreesens\u00a0<\/strong>who finished 4th\u00a0in 9:06.07. Queens and Drury both placed two swimmers in the championship final, with\u00a0<strong>Nick Arakelian\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Konrad Stepien\u00a0<\/strong>placing 7th and 6th for their
