THE second evening of long course meter action at the USA Swimming Grand Prix held in Los Angeles had some of the fastest times in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Trojan&#39;s Katinka Hosszu thrilled the crowd with a splendid time in the women&#39;s 400 IM.  She checked in with a blazing fast time of 4:34.68 to vault to second in the world rankings. Only Li Xuanxu has been faster than Hosszu with a 4:34.59 from the Chinese Long Course Nationals in April. Hosszu&#39;s previous top time had been a fifth-ranked 4:36.93 from the TYR Swim Meet of Champions <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworld.tv\/events\/2010-tyr-swim-meet-of-champions\/races\/5731 target=_blank>as seen on<\/a> SwimmingWorld.TV. FAST&#39;s Ariana Kukors checked in with a second-place 4:39.55, well back from her sixth-ranked season best of 4:37.63. California&#39;s Caitlin Leverenz completed the top three in 4:40.73 to take 16th in the rankings.<\/p>\n<p>FAST&#39;s Kate Ziegler clobbered her preliminary meet record in the women&#39;s 800 free with an 8:25.89 for the win in the finale.  That performance shot her to sixth in the world in the event, and ahead of Mission Viejo&#39;s Chloe Sutton as the top American this year.  Ziegler previously clocked an 8:31.05 during prelims for the meet record. Sutton, whose top time this year is a ninth-ranked 8:29.31 from April, cruised through to second in 8:30.50 while still in a heavy training period.  Sutton already pocketed the overall Grand Prix series check for $20,000 after dominating throughout the circuit. Terrapins&#39; Chelsea Chenault, 15, finished third in the race with an 8:38.03 <\/p>\n<p>FAST&#39;s Kara Lynn Joyce just missed her seventh-ranked season best of 54.65 with a winning time of 54.69 in the women&#39;s 100 free. California&#39;s Natalie Coughlin continued to round into form after time away from the pool last year with a second-place 54.84. Her top time this year is a 54.71 from Austin. Trojan&#39;s Jessica Hardy captured third with a time of 54.93 to complete the sub-55 performances.<\/p>\n<p>California&#39;s Nathan Adrian ripped off a 48.71 to win the men&#39;s 100 free and rocket to sixth in the world rankings. Tucson Ford&#39;s Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or took second in 50.10, while Tennessee&#39;s Lars Persson claimed third in 50.28. Notably, Rose Bowl&#39;s Jason Lezak triumphed in the B final with a time of 50.03. <\/p>\n<p>Jiao Yang touched out Trojan&#39;s Lyndsay De Paul, 2:08.40 to 2:08.44, in the women&#39;s 200 fly. Both times moved their respective swimmers to ninth and 10th in the world rankings. North Coast&#39;s Tanya Krisman completed the top three in 2:09.00 to push herself into the top 15.<\/p>\n<p>Chen Yin, who is ranked third in the world in the men&#39;s 200 fly with a smoking fast 1:55.67 from the Chinese Long Course Nationals in April, won the event this evening with a sterling 1:56.92. FAST went 2-3 in the event with Tyler Clary taking second in 1:57.85, while Bobby Bollier touched third in 1:58.28. <\/p>\n<p>Crow Canyon&#39;s Madison White, 15, topped the women&#39;s 200 back with a winning effort of 2:12.15. FAST&#39;s Katie Hoff took a close second with a 2:12.79, while Mission Aurora&#39;s Bonnie Brandon rounded out the top three in 2:13.96. <\/p>\n<p>Island&#39;s Ryan Cochrane snared the men&#39;s 400 free in a time of 3:50.78, while Longhorn&#39;s Michael Klueh placed second overall in 3:52.05. FAST&#39;s Charlie Houchin snatched third-place honors in 3:52.53.<\/p>\n<p>Men&#39;s 200 back results were not made available to the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LOS ANGELES, California, July 9.
