Wolfpack swimmers posted the top seed in three of the four events contested.<\/p>\n<p>NC State finished 1-2 in the 200 back to open up the morning.\u00a0<strong>Hennessey Stuart\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 1:39.59 to lead the way into the final, and only Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> has better that swim so far this season. His teammate\u00a0<strong>Justin Ress<\/strong> grabbed second with his time of 1:40.26.<\/p>\n<p>Just behind Ress were two men who won have already won ACC titles at this meet: Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong>, fresh of his win in the 100 back, qualified third in 1:40.28, and fourth went to Virginia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Owen<\/strong> as the 400 IM champion touched in 1:40.29.<\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Whitacre\u00a0<\/strong>was fifth in 1:40.60, and UNC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jorden Merrilees<\/strong> qualified sixth in 1:41.35. It was no surprise to see\u00a0<strong>Ryan Held<\/strong> leading the way, touching in 42.33, and Held will go for his third title of the meet in the final after already winning the 50 free and 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Held figures to challenge his own meet record of 41.69 in the final, but the ACC record of 41.18 held by former Wolfpack teammate\u00a0<strong>Simonas Bilis<\/strong> could be harder to crack.<\/p>\n<p>Held&#8217;s teammates will bracket him in the final as\u00a0<strong>Soren Dahl<\/strong>, the winner of the 200 free, came in second at 42.89, and\u00a0<strong>Joe Bonk<\/strong> was third in 42.92. NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Scott Johnson<\/strong> came in seventh at 43.10.<\/p>\n<p>The seven swimmers besides Held in the A-final were separated by just 0.24. Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mattias Lindenbauer\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth in 42.95, followed by Notre Dame teammates\u00a0<strong>Tabahn Afrik\u00a0<\/strong>(42.96) and\u00a0<strong>Daniel Speers<\/strong> (43.09). Fiala owns the meet record in 1:52.87, just off the conference record of 1:52.68 held by Louisville grad\u00a0<strong>Thomas Dahlia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Fiala could get a challenge in the final from Georgia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Moises Loschi<\/strong>, who qualified second in 1:53.47, and from Notre Dame&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Trent Jackson<\/strong>, the third seed in 1:53.68. Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Carlos Claverie\u00a0<\/strong>is again looming in lane six after qualifying fourth in 1:54.33.<\/p>\n<p>Kropp earned a spot in the final with his time of 1:54.54, just ahead of North Carolina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michael McBryan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.86). He posted a time of 1:41.93 to lead the way in the heats of the 200 fly to move himself into the top 10 in the country this season. Former Wolfpack star\u00a0<strong>Christian McCurdy<\/strong> holds both the conference (1:41.06) and meet records (1:41.42) in the event from last season.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zach Harting\u00a0<\/strong>qualified second in the event in 1:43.15, and Georgia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ben Southern<\/strong> finished third in 1:43.35.
