Among the highlights from the session, Olympic gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Nathan Adrian<\/strong> returned to competition for the first time since the Olympics in Rio and qualified first in the men&#8217;s 100 free.<\/p>\n<p>Read below for a full recap of the action.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 free<\/h3>\n<p>China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zhu Menghui<\/strong> finished atop the field in the first event of the meet, touching in a time of 54.31 to earn lane four for the final. Finishing second was Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong>, who posted a lifetime best time of 54.40, and just behind were two Olympic gold medalists, Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Penny Oleksiak<\/strong> and Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Oleksiak finished in 54.50, and Pellegrini posted a time of 54.65. Adrian touched in 49.32 to easily top the prelims field, more than three tenths ahead of Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ali Khalafalla<\/strong>, who qualified second in 49.68.<\/p>\n<p>Tying for the third seed were Cardinal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Joao de Lucca<\/strong> and Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bruno Fratus<\/strong>, both of whom touched in 49.75. Representing New York Athletic Club, Larson came in just ahead of a trio of British swimmers:\u00a0<strong>Chloe Tutton<\/strong> (2:27.26),\u00a0<strong>Mary-Sophie Harvey\u00a0<\/strong>(2:28.44) and Short Course World Champion\u00a0<strong>Molly Renshaw\u00a0<\/strong>(2:28.47).<\/p>\n<p>St. Petersburg&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Melanie Margalis<\/strong> finished fifth in 2:28.51, and Club Wolverine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Miranda Tucker\u00a0<\/strong>finished sixth in 2:28.87. Still, it should be more of a race in the final as he will be surrounded by much together competition\u00a0who cruised through the heats into the championship final.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong> qualified second in 53.71, followed by Race Pace&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> in 54.09.
