PESCARA, Italy, June 19. TWO more meet records went into the books at the Sette Colli Trophy meet held over long course meters in Pescara.<\/p>\n
Great Britain's Elizabeth Simmonds set a meet record in the women's 200 back with a time of 2:08.31. That effort clipped the 2:08.80 set by Hanae Ito in 2008. Simmonds is the top-ranked swimmer in the world with a time of 2:06.79 from March. Roberta Ioppi placed second in 2:14.04, while Alessia Filippi took third in 2:14.34. <\/p>\n
Hungary's Laszlo Cseh lowered the meet record in the men's 200 IM with a 1:59.14. That performance wiped out the 1:59.81 set clocked back in 2005. He just missed his fourth-ranked season best of 1:59.01 from the Canet stop of the Mare Nostrum. Vytautas Janusaitis finished second in 2:01.67, while Chad Le Clos clocked a 2:02.85 for third-place overall.<\/p>\n
The men's 50 fly featured a blazing battle with Australia's Geoff Huegill trumping Serbia's Milorad Cavic. Huegill won in 23.50, while Cavic took second in 23.79. Huegill just missed his second-ranked season best of 23.46 from March, while Cavic moved up to seventh in the world. Jason Dunford grabbed third in 24.00. <\/p>\n
Sweden's Therese Alshammar posted a 25.86 to win the women's 50 fly. She's been faster this year with a top-ranked 25.49 from the Barcelona stop of the Mare Nostrum. Triin Aljand placed second in 26.31, while Fran Halsall earned third in 26.62. <\/p>\n
Australia's Eamon Sullivan touched out Filippo Magnini, 49.25 to 49.35, in the men's 100 free. Dunford snared his second podium of the night with a third-place 49.71. Sullivan has a 48.52 to his credit from March.<\/p>\n
In another close contest, Femke Heemskerk beat Agnes Mutina, 1:58.22 to 1:58.28, in the women's 200 free. Heemskerk moved to 12th in the world, while Mutina fell short of her sixth-ranked season best of 1:57.71 from April. Zsuzsanna Jakabos completed the podium with a third-place time of 2:01.08.<\/p>\n
Federico Colbertaldo became just the 10th man under 15:10 this year in the men's 1500 free with a 15:09.41. That time moved him to ninth in the world ahead of Mark Randall's 15:09.75. Luca Ferretti placed second in 15:17.84, while Samuel Pizzetti took third in 15:27.37. <\/p>\n
Evelyn Verraszto improved to 16th in the world in the women's 200 IM with a winning time of 2:12.67. Francesca Segat finished second in 2:15.20, while Camilla Dal Rio wound up third in 2:17.46. <\/p>\n
Sebastiano Ranfagni topped the men's 200 back in 1:59.91, while Matteo Milli earned second in 1:59.94 in a close finish. Damiano Lestingi completed the top three in 2:00.12. Neil Versfeld claimed the men's 200 breast in 2:12.88. Akos Molnar touched second in 2:14.19, while Michael Jamieson wound up third in 2:14.25. <\/p>\n
