EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands, June 15. THE final night of swimming at the Dutch Long Course Nationals came to a close with a pair of scorching times as well as a meet record going into the books.<\/p>\n
Femke Heemskerk jumped to second in the world in the women's 100 free with a sterling time of 54.28. That effort only trails Ranomi Kromowidjojo's 53.44 from March. Ilse Kraaijeveld took second in 55.47, while Elise Bouwens placed third in 56.61. <\/p>\n
Kromowidjojo, focusing on the women's 50 fly this evening, moved into third in the world in the event with a blazing 26.25. Only Therese Alshammar (25.49) and Yolane Kukla (25.92) have been faster this year. Kelly de Jong finished second in 28.11, while Willemijn Knot earned third in 28.30. <\/p>\n
Lieke Verouden set a meet record in the women's 400 IM with a winning time of 4:48.49. That swim smashed the 4:50.27 set by Rieneke Terink last year. Terink took second overall in 4:54.15, while Judith Stap placed third in 4:59.37. <\/p>\n
Sebastiaan Verschuren claimed the men's 100 free title in 49.39, while Joeri Verlinden took second in 51.03. Stefan de Die wound up third overall in 51.19. Nick Driebergen touched first in the men's 100 back with a 55.52. Jurjen Willemsen placed second in 56.35, while Joey de Ruiter earned third in 58.07.<\/p>\n
Wendy van den Zanden turned in a first-place time of 1:02.63 in the women's 100 back. Mariet Koster grabbed second in 1:03.47, while Evy Witlox claimed third in 1:03.78. Lennart Stekelenburg won the men's 50 breast in 28.51 with Robin van Aggele snaring second in 28.76. Bram Dekker and Rudy Ted de Haan tied for third with matching 29.46s. Moniek Nijhuis topped the women's 50 breast in 32.26. Anouk Elzerman (32.87) and Lona Kroese (32.92) completed the top three.<\/p>\n
Verlinden claimed his second podium of the night with a 24.36 in the men's 50 fly for the win. Marc Kremer finished second in 24.94, while Jeroen Stuut garnered third in 25.24. Arjen van der Meulen won the men's 1500 free in 15:42.36. Davy Verreussel took second in 16:07.50, while Mark Moussa snagged third in 16:23.18.<\/p>\n
In relay action, Driebergen, Bas van Velthoven, Stekelenburg and Verschuren set a meet record in the men's 400 medley relay with a 3:42.06.
