Seton Hall captured its first men’s Big East Swimming & Diving Championship in school history Saturday night in East Meadow, New York. The Pirates had never finished higher than third at the Big East Championships and came away with the win this year winning by almost 200 points over second place Georgetown.<\/p>\n

The Pirates got the night started with a win from Vadim Jacobson<\/strong> in the 1650 free at 15:36.71. Xavier’s Alex Wolfred<\/strong> trailed him the entire race and he was second at 15:40.79. Villanova’s John Paul Naughton<\/strong> had a monster last 100 to overtake Seton Hall’s Lior Grubert<\/strong> 15:49.91-15:50.13.<\/p>\n

Villanova came back in the 200 back to get a 1-2 finish from Andrew Kelley<\/strong> (1:46.56) and Justin Cucchi<\/strong> (1:46.88). Henry Hollinshead<\/strong> of Georgetown finished in third at 1:48.12.<\/p>\n

Seton Hall picked right back up with a dominant performance in the 100 free, placing three in the top four. Dakota Williams<\/strong> finished first for the Pirates at 44.86 with Noah Yanchulis<\/strong> and Connor Phillips<\/strong> finished third and fourth at 45.03 and 45.38 respectively. David Bunnell<\/strong> of Xavier split the trio with a second place finish at 44.95.<\/p>\n
Xavier picked up its first win of the night on the men’s side with Matthew Dyer<\/strong> in the 200 breaststroke. Dyer was the only swimmer to break 2 minutes as he touched at 1:59.88 for the win. Josh Tosoni<\/strong> of Seton Hall was second at 2:00.45 and third was Xavier’s\u00a0Robert Van Kirk<\/strong>\u00a0a fair way back at 2:03.11.<\/p>\n

Seton Hall finished the meet with a big 400 free relay win at 2:58.14. Relay names are not available at the moment for that race. Xavier was second (2:59.12) and Villanova was third (3:01.50).<\/p>\n
On the women’s side, Villanova captured it’s fourth straight Big East Conference crown. They got things started off with a 1-2 finish in the 1650 with Emily Mayo<\/strong> winning dominantly at 16:28.54. Her teammate, Caitlin Daday<\/strong>, was second at 16:47.00 and Seton Hall’s Jillian Calocino<\/strong> was third at 16:51.76.<\/p>\n

Villanova ended their night victorious in the 400 free relay with a 3:20.10 for the win. Wilson (50.20), Jessica Randolph<\/strong> (50.19), Goodwin (50.42) and Fabbri (49.29) were on the victorious last relay. Xavier was second (3:22.44) and Seton Hall was third (3:25.34).<\/p>\n
The Wildcats have now won four straight women’s championships. This is the first time they’ve won four in a row since winning five straight from 1992-1996. The Pirates are first time winners on the men’s side after never placing higher than third.<\/p>\n
