For more information about Agon, visit their website <a href=\"http:\/\/agonswim.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AgonSwim.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Maryland High School 3A\/4A state swimming championships took place this morning with a number of state records falling along the way.<\/p>\n<h2>Girls<\/h2>\n<p>The Walter Johnson High School\u00a0girls scored 292 points to win the meet ahead of Sherwood High School with 246 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Athena Aravantinou<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Margaret Wolfson<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Molly Benson<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Maya Drill\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 medley relay for Walter Johnson in 1:47.72, just .03 faster than Bethesda&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Smith<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Gabrielle Meisel<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Olivia McGrath<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Caroline Karson.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Montgomery Blair senior\u00a0<strong>Madison Waechter\u00a0<\/strong>set the state 500 freestyle record in 4:52.65. Also under five minutes were\u00a0<strong>Grace Giddings\u00a0<\/strong>of Sherwood High (4:56.33) and Walt Whitman&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lena Redisch\u00a0<\/strong>(4:59.10). Waechter was also dominant in the 200 freestyle with a 1:50.93.<\/p>\n<p>A freshman from Quince Orchard,\u00a0<strong>Catherine Belyakov\u00a0<\/strong>also set a state record with a 2:03.81 200 IM. Walter Johnson&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Celine Nugent\u00a0<\/strong>was runner up (2:05.78). Belyakov was runner up in the 100 breaststroke behind another state record. Northewest senior\u00a0<strong>Jaycee Yegher\u00a0<\/strong>set that mark with a winning 1:01.76.<\/p>\n<p>The state mark also fell in the 100 butterfly with a 55.18 from Winston Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Wang\u00a0<\/strong>(55.18).\u00a0<strong>Hannah Kannan\u00a0<\/strong>of Montgomery Blair (55.73) touched second.<\/p>\n<p>Bethesda senior\u00a0Smith won the 100 backstroke in 55.77. Kannan<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>finished second again (56.62) and Sherwood&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sophia Ryan\u00a0<\/strong>finished third (57.56).<\/p>\n<p>Northwest&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sydney Knapp\u00a0<\/strong>out touched Nugent 51.63 to 51.66 to win the 100 freestyle. Walt Whitman&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Avery Williams\u00a0<\/strong>topped the 50 freestyle (23.97). Smith touched second (24.04), just .01 faster than Knapp (24.05).<\/p>\n<p>Drill, Nugent,\u00a0<strong>Kiki Bonetta-Misteli<\/strong>, and Wolfson set a state record time of 1:36.74 to win the 200 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n<p>Winston Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0Wang,\u00a0<strong>Beth Wright<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Hanan Bandak<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Maya Fischer\u00a0<\/strong>completed the relay state record trifecta with a 3:30.74 in the 400 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n<h2>Boys<\/h2>\n<p>Richard Montgomery High school eeked out a win over Winston Churchill High School, scoring 289 points to Winston Churchill&#8217;s 287.<\/p>\n<p>The Richard Montgomery relay of\u00a0<strong>Matt Nguyen<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kenny Afolabi-Brown<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Grey Afloabi-Brown<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Mendley\u00a0<\/strong>opened the meet with a 200 medley relay victory in 1:35.35.<\/p>\n<p>The Afolabi-Browns combined with\u00a0<strong>Simon Li\u00a0<\/strong>and Mendley to win the 200 freestyle relay in state record time of 1:26.50. Winston Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ian Mackey<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>David Chang<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Noah Pereles<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Zachary Einhorn\u00a0<\/strong>were second in 1:26.94.<\/p>\n<p>Kenny Afolabi-Brown went on to win the 50 freestyle in 21.45, out touching Bethesda&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Diego Suarez Touzon\u00a0<\/strong>(21.48) and Winston Churchill&#8217;s\u00a0Mackey<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(21.54). Suarez Touzon was also second in the 100 freestyle in 47.01. Gaithersburg&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brandon Cu\u00a0<\/strong>won the event with a 46.71. Wootton&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeffrey Qin\u00a0<\/strong>finished third (47.39).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Li\u00a0<\/strong>of Wootton was first to the wall in the 200 freestyle with a 1:42.07. Second place went to Walter Johnson&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Abe Kim\u00a0<\/strong>(1:42.51). Einhorn was third (1:43.48). Li also won the 500 free in 4:37.36.\u00a0<strong>Andy Rothstein<\/strong> of Winston Churchill was second (4:42.38), just faster than Richard Montgomery&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jack Rose\u00a0<\/strong>(4:42.65).\u00a0Rose won the 100 backstroke in 51.41, just .02 faster than Clarksburg senior\u00a0<strong>Michael Wong\u00a0<\/strong>(51.43).<\/p>\n<p>Winston Churchill ended the meet with a 400 freestyle state record of 3:10.33, but it wasn&#8217;t enough as Richard Montgomery finished third to earn enough points to win the meet.\u00a0<strong>Noah Perelss<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sanjay Wijesekera<\/strong>, Rothstein, and Einhorn were the record setting squad.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Johnson&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Timmy Ellett\u00a0<\/strong>swam a state record 1:52.61 to win the 200 IM ahead of Clarksburg&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jacob Halem\u00a0<\/strong>and Severna Park&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Reid Hussey\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.87).<\/p>\n<p>Quince Orchard&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Eli Fouts\u00a0<\/strong>led a pack of 100 butterfliers. The junior got to the wall first in 50.39. Sophomores\u00a0<strong>Danny Calder\u00a0<\/strong>of Walt Whitman and\u00a0<strong>Alex Colson\u00a0<\/strong>of Wheaton were second and third in 50.71 and 50.76.<\/p>\n<p>Fouts also earned top honors in the 100 breaststroke.
