The Indiana boys high school state swimming and diving championship got started tonight. The meet got off to a quick start as Carmel’s\u00a0Drew Kibler\u00a0<\/strong>set the boys National Public High School record<\/a> in the 200 free. He also\u00a0decimated the 200 freestyle state record. The junior posted a time of 1:33.30, over five seconds faster than his seed and nearly four seconds faster than the old mark. North Central’s\u00a0Peter Jameson\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 1:37.02 in 2006.<\/p>\n

Jacob Destrampe\u00a0<\/strong>(1:40.24) of Franklin Community and Zionsville’s\u00a0Tyler Harmon\u00a0<\/strong>(1:40.50) will be the second and third seeds.<\/p>\n

Franzman was even quicker from a flat start. The junior posted a 19.85 second 50 freestyle. That time was a school record, quicker than Zionsville’s\u00a0Kyle DeCoursey\u00a0<\/strong>(20.08) went in 2015.<\/p>\n

Matthew Jerden\u00a0<\/strong>of Bloomington South led a trio of 48s with his 48.49 in the 100 butterfly.\u00a0Zachary Cook\u00a0<\/strong>of Greenfield-Central touched in 48.61 and Schuler took the third seed (48.99).<\/p>\n

Each with a state record already under their belts, Kibler and Franzman set up an impressive battle for tomorrow’s 100 freestyle finals. Both juniors cleared the 100 freestyle state record, though Kibler posted the faster time with a 43.25. Franzman touched in 43.44. 2016 Olympian\u00a0<\/a>Blake Pieroni\u00a0<\/strong>held the old state mark at 43.52 from 2014. Kibler’s teammate\u00a0Andrew Couchon\u00a0<\/strong>will be seeded third (45.27).<\/p>\n

Lehman added a 500 freestyle top seed to his top spot in the 200 IM. He clocked a 3:27.69 for the lead. Franklin’s\u00a0Jacob Destrampe\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 4:30.58 for second. Carmel freshman\u00a0Jacob Mitchell\u00a0<\/strong>earned the third seed with a 4:33.23.<\/p>\n

After his third seed in the 200 freestyle, Harmon claimed the middle lane in the 100 backstroke with a 49.87. Fort Warne Snider’s\u00a0Jacob Steele\u00a0<\/strong>was on his heels in 49.90. Another Carmel freshman,\u00a0Wyatt Davis<\/strong>, was third, this time with a 50.15.<\/p>\n
