Texas Men and Women continued their\u00a0march to the NCAA Championships next month in Indianapolis with solid morning swims. Most swims were relaxed as everyone gears up for tonight’s finals. \u00a0The following is an overview of this morning session.<\/p>\n

#17 Women 100 Fly Prelim Results<\/h2>\n

Texas Senior Brynne Wong\u00a0<\/strong>qualified first going into tonight’s final with a comfortable swim of 53.84. \u00a0She dropped from a seed time of 55.29 to lead\u00a0the race from start to finish. Freshman Morgan Bullock<\/strong> from West Virginia qualified second touching the wall at 54.36 after adding to her seed time. \u00a0Look for her to go faster this evening. \u00a0Rounding out the top three Leah Pfitzer<\/strong> from Kansas finished third with a time of 55.36.<\/p>\n

Joseph Schooling<\/strong> cruised to the top seed in the 100 yard butterfly this morning. \u00a0The Rio Olympic Gold Medalist looked smooth and relaxed after coming off a week in the weight room. Texas took 6 out of the top 8 spots with Will Glass<\/strong> posting a second place finish with a time of 46.21 followed by Jack Conger<\/strong>‘s 46.34. \u00a0Look for the entire field to go faster tonight.<\/p>\n

Texas landed 7 out of 8 spots in the Men’s 200 Free with Freshman Radu Duican<\/strong> from Texas Christian breaking the string of 8. \u00a0Clark Smith<\/strong> showed his versatility in winning the preliminaries with a time of 1:34.72 followed by PJ Dunne<\/strong> 1:35.09 and Freshman Sam Kline<\/strong> 1:35.38. \u00a0Townley Hass<\/strong>‘s meet record of 1:32.01 might get a scare tonight, but his NCAA record of 1:30.46 is safe.<\/p>\n

Newton came in with a seed time of 1:03.66 to touch the wall with a 1:01.73. \u00a0Emma Harris<\/strong> improved on her time to finish\u00a0with a 1:02.22 time and take the 3rd spot going into tonight’s final. \u00a0Although Texas is in position to win this race, this is one of their weakest events depth-wise.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Jake Armstrong<\/strong> from West Virginia strong armed the rest of the field with a 2.54 second drop to take the first place seed going into tonight’s finals. \u00a0Armstrong out swam the next five Texas Swimmers including second place finisher Imri Ganiel<\/strong> (53.73) by 2 tenths of second and Casey Melzer<\/strong>‘s third place time of 54.12. \u00a0This will be a fun race to watch tonight!<\/p>\n
