RALEIGH, North Carolina, June 1. NC State head swimming and diving coach Brooks Teal announced today the addition of two student-athletes to the Wolfpack program. Kelsey Liu and Lauren Poore will both serve as true freshman for the women's swimming and diving team during the 2010-11 season.<\/p>\n
The duo joins Casey Cooper, Zina Grogg, Kaitlin Mills, Jordan Paavola and Bailey Woodling, all of which inked with the Pack this past December.<\/p>\n
"Kelsey Liu and Lauren Poore are both outstanding young ladies who are a great fit for our team family, as well as swimmers who will come in and contribute to the team success right away," said Teal. "Kelsey and Lauren make this recruiting class even stronger and will help fill the openings left by our big graduating class.<\/p>\n
"Kelsey will fit in well with our very strong returning breaststrokers and play a big role in the IM events, where we lost many big scorers to graduation. Lauren can contribute in both the freestyle and backstroke events, and she will have the opportunity to play a role in relays for the Wolfpack."<\/p>\n
A native of North Potomac, Md., Liu has competed with the Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club and is a two-time team captain at Quince Orchard High School. A Senior National qualifier in the 200 breaststroke and a Junior National qualifier in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 400 individual medley, Liu will compete for the Pack in both breaststroke and individual medley events. Set to study design at NC State, Liu has been very active with both the National Art Honor Society and the National Honor Society.<\/p>\n
Poore, hailing from Bethesda, Md., swims for Tim Kelly at Curl-Burke Swim Club and is a two-time team captain at Walt Whitman High School. An All-America selection in the 200 freestyle relay, Poore is also a Junior National qualifier in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle. She will continue to swim backstroke and freestyle events for the Pack while studying psychology. Poore is a member of the National Leadership Council and the National Society of High School Scholars.<\/p>\n
