The 2017 Speedo Sectionals series got started\u00a0tonight in College Station, Texas with timed finals of the 1000 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n
Four women finished under ten minutes tonight in the 1000. Texas Ford Aquatics put two athletes on the podium.\u00a0Gabrielle Kopenski\u00a0<\/strong>was dominant, stopping the clock in 9:38.26. Her 15 year old teammate finished third in 9:52.40. Magnolia Aquatic Club’s\u00a0Kaitlynn Sims\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 9:49.15 for second. North Texas Nadadores’\u00a0Audrey McMurry\u00a0<\/strong>was also under ten minutes in 9:58.46.<\/p>\n Teammates also took gold and bronze in the men’s event.\u00a0Colter Carman\u00a0<\/strong>of North Texas stopped the clock in 9:14.74 to win. His fellow 18 year old\u00a0William Karau\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 9:19.17, just behind Lost Creek Aquatics’\u00a0Clark Wakeland\u00a0<\/strong>with a 9:19.09.<\/p>\n Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics and Texas Ford Aquatics made it a battle in the women’s 800 freestyle relay.\u00a0Zoe Lusk\u00a0<\/strong>opened things up for PASA in a 1:49.96, over a second behind TFA’s\u00a0Camryn Toney\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:48.60.<\/p>\n Lusk was followed by\u00a0Danielle Carter<\/strong>,\u00a0Vicky Wong<\/strong>, and\u00a0Isabelle Henig\u00a0<\/strong>(splits were unavailable). The team posted a winning 7:30.35.<\/p>\n Abigail Koczo<\/strong> (1:53.13),\u00a0Madison Coughlen\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.68), and\u00a0Gabriella Kopenski\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.30) brought it home for TFA as the team touched second in 7:20.71.<\/p>\n In third was Magnolia Aquatic Club’s\u00a0Emily Reese\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.59),\u00a0Monica Gumina\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.73),\u00a0Shea Gregson<\/strong>, and\u00a0Caitlin Clements\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.91) with a 7:23.03.<\/p>\n North Texas Nadadores and Nitro Swimming brought things down to the wire in the men’s relay. After\u00a0a quick lead off from\u00a0Jack LeVant\u00a0<\/strong>(1:37.01), the team of\u00a0David Hallaron\u00a0<\/strong>(1:41.89),\u00a0William Karau\u00a0<\/strong>(1:41.18), and\u00a0Colter Carman\u00a0<\/strong>(1:41.09) held off Nitro. NTN posted a 6:41.17.
