LONG BEACH, California, May 28. THE CIF Southern Sectional Masters Championships took place May 18 at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. Torrance's Vladimir Morozov had the top performance of the meet, winning two races with meet records and also setting a national high school record in the boys' 100 free.<\/p>\n

Girls Results<\/b>
\nPalm Spring's Lynnette Lim and Glendora's Gretchen Jaques each won two races and set meet records in both at the Masters. Lim won the 200 free in 1:47.55, breaking Emily Bibb's 2007 meet record of 1:47.83. She returned in the 500 free to post a 4:45.95 victory, surpassing her own meet mark of 4:47.94 from 2008.<\/p>\n

Jaques, meanwhile, beat the field in the 200 IM, posting a time of 1:58.88, faster than Megan Hawthorne's meet record of 2:01.18 from 2008. In her second race, the 100 breast, Jaques posted a top time of 1:00.47, more than a second and a half better than Jordan Danny's 2008 meet record of 1:02.19.<\/p>\n

Immanuel Christian's Mary Hanson also claimed two victories at Masters, winning the 50 free in 23.24 and the 100 back in 54.48. John A. Rowland's Kylie Garcia took the 100 fly in 55.00, while Fountain Valley's Cynthia Fascella won the 100 free in 50.33<\/p>\n

Aliso Niguel won the 200 medley relay in 1:48.07, while Fountain Valley posted a 1:36.96 triumph in the 200 free relay. Woodbridge rounded out the meet with a 3:33.34 victory in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n

Millikan's Paulina Guzman won the one-meter diving competition with 316.80 points.<\/p>\n

Boys Results<\/b>
\nTorrance's Vladimir Morozov highlighted the boys' races with two wins, as well as a National High School record. Individually, Morozov won the 100 fly in 47.97, breaking Chase Bloch's meet record of 48.51 from 2009. Incidentally, Bloch finished second in the race, clocking 48.65. Morozov returned for the 100 back, where he posted another meet record of 47.55, exactly a second faster than Tony Cox's meet record of 48.55 set in 2009.<\/p>\n

Morozov also led Torrance to two relay victories. In the 200 free relay, Torrance won in 1:25.51, with Morozov recording a 19.55 opening leg. While off of his National High School record of 19.43, it did clear Joey Hale's meet record of 20.22 set in 2008. Torrance also won the 400 free relay in 3:07.18. <\/p>\n

As previously reported<\/a>, Morozov's opening 100 free split was 42.87, which beat Jimmy Feigen's national high school record of 43.05 set in 2008, as well as Patrick White's meet record of 45.45, set in 2007.<\/p>\n

Los Alamitos' Young Tae Seo also posted two wins. First, he took the 200 IM in 1:50.71, and he later returned for a 4:32.91 win in the 500 free.<\/p>\n

Los Alamitos' Joe Ferretti claimed the 50 free in 20.97, while El Segundo's Ryan Makuta finished first in the 100 free, clocking 46.09, both times slower than Morozov's relay lead-offs. Sonora's Brennan Jacobsen won the 200 free in 1:40.12, and Corona Del Mar's Michael Liao rounded out the individual events with a 56.21 win in the 100 breast. Oaks Christian took the 200 medley relay in 1:35.14.<\/p>\n

In the one-meter diving competition, Long Beach Poly's Deon Reid scored a meet-record 378.20 points for first place, breaking his former top score of 377.15 points from 2009.<\/p>\n
