{"id":242248,"date":"2017-02-22T11:18:03","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T18:18:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=242248"},"modified":"2017-02-22T11:18:03","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T18:18:03","slug":"will-licon-posts-quick-100-breast-in-big-12-championships-time-trials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/will-licon-posts-quick-100-breast-in-big-12-championships-time-trials\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Licon Posts Quick 100 Breast in Big-12 Championships Time Trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first official races of the Big-12 championships in Austin, Texas, don&#8217;t begin until Wednesday afternoon, but there were some quick time trials Wednesday morning, most notably from Texas senior\u00a0<strong>Will Licon<\/strong> in the men&#8217;s 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Licon recorded a time of 51.15, the second-fastest time in the country behind <strong>Fabien Schwingenschlogl<\/strong> (51.07). It also breaks\u00a0Licon&#8217;s\u00a0own school and conference record of 51.81. That old mark was set as a split in Licon&#8217;s NCAA and American record-setting performance in the 200 breast at last year&#8217;s NCAA championships, when he finished in 1:48.12.<\/p>\n<p>Even though he has won two NCAA titles in the 200 breast, he has never competed in the 100 breast at the end-of-season championships, instead opting for the 400 IM on that day. But in an appearance on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/off-deck-feb-15-2017-will-licon-rebounds-from-trials-and-injuries-for-final-season-at-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Swimming World TV&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Off Deck<\/em><\/a> last week, Licon indicated he did not know which event he and Texas head coach\u00a0<strong>Eddie Reese\u00a0<\/strong>would opt for this season.<\/p>\n<p>Licon is scheduled to compete in both IMs and in the 200 breast later in the Big-12 meet.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing behind Licon in the time trial Wednesday were Texas teammates\u00a0<strong>Austin Temple\u00a0<\/strong>(53.76) and\u00a0<strong>Jared Butler\u00a0<\/strong>(54.40). Other highlights included Texas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Robert<\/strong> posting a quick time of 1:44.49 in the men&#8217;s 200 IM and\u00a0<strong>Quinn Carozza\u00a0<\/strong>of the Longhorns clocking in at 1:54.49 in the women&#8217;s 200 back.<\/p>\n<p>Full results can be found <a
