Cardenas is a breaststroker and freestyler whose focus has been in the 100 breaststroke and 50 and 100 free.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cameron is going to help us a lot with keeping our breaststroke depth,&#8221; WBU coach <strong>Alyson Hannan<\/strong> said. &#8220;I expect Cameron to continue with his hard work ethic. He is dedicated and has a great feel for the water.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My focus for Cameron will be to help with technique and focus on developing the speed of his strokes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cardenas said he chose Wayland &#8220;because of the common goal that\u00a0I have with coaches to succeed with my swimming and academic careers. Staying in Texas at Wayland gives me a great opportunity to proudly represent my home state. I had many options to attend different colleges, but I chose Wayland due to the welcoming attitudes of my teammates, coaches and professors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cardenas is the sixth person and fourth male to sign with WBU swimming this year, joining <strong>Daric\u00a0Sundeen<\/strong>, a\u00a0flyer, backstroker and freestyler from Golden, Colo.; <strong>Alan Senn<\/strong>, a distance swimmer from Albuquerque, N.M.; <strong>Colton Wyatt<\/strong>, a sprint freestyler from North Richland Hills; <strong>Sarah Grace Stephenson<\/strong>, a freestyler and flyer from Round Rock; and <strong>Albany McDonald<\/strong>, a distance freestyler from Portland.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are very excited to welcome Cameron\u00a0to the WBU swim family,&#8221; Hannan said.<\/p>\n<p>The Pioneer men&#8217;s team currently is ranked fourth in the NAIA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kenzie Crews<\/strong>, a sprint freestyler from Fort Worth, has signed to become a part of the Wayland Baptist swimming and diving program.<\/p>\n<p>Crews, who attends Trinity High School, has focused on the 50 and 100 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My goal is to expand that to the 200 freestyle as well as see what other strokes we can make stronger,&#8221; WBU coach Alyson Hannan said. &#8220;Kenzie hasn&#8217;t been swimming very long, so the best is yet to come for her. She is very close to the national times, and our goal is to get her to those cuts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Crews said she knew she wanted to attend Wayland the first time she set foot on campus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As soon as I walked on campus I felt at home,&#8221; she said. &#8220;The coaches genuinely care about me and my success, and the team was kind and welcoming. I really felt like the Lord was leading me to Wayland and I can&#8217;t wait to see all the opportunities that open up for me there, both athletically and academically.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>An International Baccalaureate student, Crews was named Trinity High School Trojan Woman of the Year for 2014-15.
