ATLANTA, Georgia, May 23. THE U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course Yard Nationals came to a close with quite a few more Masters nationals records going up on the scoreboard.<\/p>\n
Celeste Miller, 60, downed the women's 60-64 500 free national record with a 5:59.36. She cleared the previous mark of 6:06.73 set by Barbara Dunbar in 2009. <\/p>\n
Emile Ewing, 22, shot down the women's 18-24 100 IM record with a time of 58.11. That swim eclipsed the 58.34 set by Laura Davis in 2008. Tanica Jamison, 28, remained on fire so far this meet with a 55.26 in the women's 25-29 100 IM. That time wiped out the 56.76 set by Limin Liu back in 2001. Sheri Hart, 39, and Erika Braun, 38, both beat the women's 35-39 100 IM national record of 58.31 set by Susan Von Der Lippe in 2004. Hart, however, claimed the final spoils, 57.67 to 58.13. Another pair of swimmers surpassed a national mark, this time in the women's 60-64 100 IM. Charlotte Davis, 60, defeated Diann Uustal, 63, 1:08.64 to 1:11.61, as the duo cleared Carolyn Boak's 2007 mark of 1:12.31. <\/p>\n
Michael Ross, 42, notched a time of 51.85 in the men's 40-44 100 IM. That effort lowered his 2009 mark of 52.03. Richard Hughey, 47, followed in the men's 45-49 100 IM with a time of 52.14. He knocked off the 52.84 set by John Smith in 2008. Richard Abrahams, 65, then stopped the clock in 1:00.32 in the men's 65-69 100 IM. That time downed the 1:02.26 set by Richard Burns last year. Burwell "Bumpy" Jones, 77, clipped his national record in the men's 75-79 100 IM with a 1:11.32. That time lowered his previous mark of 1:11.98 set a year ago. <\/p>\n
Brad Horner, 56, clocked a 2:03.18 in the men's 55-59 200 fly, breaking the 2007 national mark of 2:05.59 set by Greg Shaw. <\/p>\n
Ewing earned her second national mark of the day with a 55.90 in the women's 18-24 100 back. She cleared the 2000 record time of 55.98 set by Sara Schweitzer. Jamison grabbed her second national record of the day as well with a 54.06 in the women's 25-29 100 back. That time smashed the 56.28 set by Mary Edwards back in 1999. Hart gave the 100 back its third two-time national record setter of the day with a 56.14 in the women's 35-39. That time lowered her previous mark of 56.32 set last year. Ellen Reynolds, 45, turned in a 57.83 in the women's 45-49 100 back. That time beat the 58.29 set by Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen back in 2008. Laura Val, 58, also joined the party in the women's 55-59 100 back with a 1:04.65. She lowered her 2008 record of 1:04.80. Uustal posted a 1:11.74 in the women's 60-64 100 back, downing the 1:14.73 set by Ruth Shaps in 2008. <\/p>\n
Chris Stevenson, 45, touched in 52.21 in the men's 45-49 100 back. That effort wiped out the 52.33 set by Clay Britt in 2008. Richard Kammerer, 52, followed with a 55.80 in the men's 50-54 100 back. That time erased the 56.01 set by William Specht last year. <\/p>\n
The splash-and-dash 50 frees came up next. Ewing beat Fiona O'Donnell-McCarthy, 23.28 to 23.68, in the women's 18-24 division. Both surpassed the national record of 23.78 set by Lindsay Kiyama last year. Charlotte Davis, 60, posted a 27.36 in the women's 60-64 group, downing Carolyn Boak's 28.03 record from 2008. <\/p>\n
The men followed with Steve Scheren, 23, turning in a 19.69 in the men's 18-24 group. That swim beat the long-standing 20.25 set by Eric Mauer way back in 1994. SwimMAC training partners Cullen Jones, 26, and Nick Brunelli, 28, rocked the men's 25-29 sprint free event. Jones posted a remarkable time of 19.14, while Brunelli took second in 19.40 as both cleared Sabir Muhammad's 2004 mark of 19.44. Lance Asti, 30, touched in 19.85 in the men's 30-34 division, beating Muhammad's 2009 time of 20.08 that stood as the record. Richard Hughey, 47, posted a 21.10 in the men's 45-49 division to tie John Smith's record from 2008. Abrahams turned in a 22.10 in the men's 65-69, lowering Jeff Farrell's 2002 mark of 23.66. <\/p>\n
Jon Blank, 50, posted a 2:13.77 in the men's 50-54 200 breast. That time wiped out the 2:14.87 set by Benn Doyle a year ago. Kenneth Frost, 65, touched in 2:35.52 in the men's 65-69 200 breast, lowering the 2:35.53 set by David Gildea last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
