{"id":242040,"date":"2017-02-21T09:46:46","date_gmt":"2017-02-21T16:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=242040"},"modified":"2017-02-21T09:46:46","modified_gmt":"2017-02-21T16:46:46","slug":"the-masters-university-announces-new-swimming-diving-program-for-fall-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/the-masters-university-announces-new-swimming-diving-program-for-fall-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"The Master&#8217;s University Announces New Swimming &#038; Diving Programs for Fall 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Gabe Woodward<\/strong>, bronze medalist in the 4&#215;100 meter freestyle at the 2004 Olympics, All-American swimmer and 2001 graduate of USC, joins The Master\u2019s University to launch their first ever swimming and diving program for the Fall 2017 season.<\/p>\n<p>Athletic Director at Master\u2019s U, <strong>Steve Waldeck<\/strong> said, \u201cEstablishing this program with Woodward, as our Director of Aquatics, is a huge win for our university.\u00a0 Gabe fully understands our culture and will be recruiting students to that end.\u00a0 His swimming resume and accomplishments speak for themselves and he will be a great addition to our athletic programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jason Lezak<\/strong>, 4-time Olympian and 8-time medalist, said of Woodward, &#8220;I&#8217;ve known Gabe for over 15 years and been able to see him achieve success in many aspects of his life\u2026I&#8217;m excited to see him do the same at The Master\u2019s University as he starts a team that can compete for national championships and hopefully put a kid, like Gabe, on the Olympic team!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The addition of Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Aquatics brings continued excitement to an already flourishing athletic program offered through the university. In its inaugural season, the team will train at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center with its 50 meter x 25-yard competition pool and 25&#215;25 meter dive pool, along with other aquatic facilities in the Santa Clarita Valley.<\/p>\n<p>Master\u2019s will soon be making its official application to become a member of the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference &#8212; a swimming only conference compromised of NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA institutions in the southwestern United States.<\/p>\n<p>Having been trained under Olympic coaches <strong>Dave Salo<\/strong> and<strong> Mark Schubert<\/strong>, <strong>Keith Moore<\/strong> (head coach of Bakersfield Swim Club), and alongside other Olympic athletes, <strong>Jason Lezak<\/strong> and <strong>Larsen Jensen<\/strong> (2 time Olympian and 2 time medalist), Woodward looks forward to bringing that expertise and training to Master\u2019s U.
