{"id":241822,"date":"2017-02-19T15:54:51","date_gmt":"2017-02-19T22:54:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=241822"},"modified":"2017-02-19T15:54:51","modified_gmt":"2017-02-19T22:54:51","slug":"ryan-murphy-leads-cal-past-stanford-on-senior-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-murphy-leads-cal-past-stanford-on-senior-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Ryan Murphy Leads Cal Past Stanford on Senior Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Dan D\u2019Addona.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> closed his career in Cal\u2019s pool in stunning fashion on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy set two pool records at Spieker Aquatics Complex to lead No. 2 Cal past rival No. 11 Stanford 136-105 on senior day.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy, an Olympic gold medalist, broke the pool record in the 200-yard individual medley (1:44.85) and teamed with<strong> Connor Hoppe, Matthew Josa<\/strong> and <strong>Pawel Sendyk<\/strong> to break the pool record in the 200 medley relay (1:25.61).<\/p>\n<p>Murphy also won the 200 backstroke (1:42.37) in his final dual meet, along with fellow seniors <strong>Hunter Cobleigh, Jonathan Fiepke, Dillon Williams<\/strong> and <strong>Long Gutierrez<\/strong>, who competed alongside Murphy at the 2016 Olympics, swimming for Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Cal sophomore <strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> won three events. The reigning Pac-12 Swimmer of the Month won the the 200 freestyle (1:35.46), 200 butterfly (1:44.85) and 200 breaststroke (1:57.01). Freshman<strong> Michael Jensen<\/strong> won the 50 free (19.70) and 100 free (43.49).<\/p>\n<p>Stanford went 1-2-3 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, led by<strong> True Sweetser<\/strong> (9:00.25). <strong>Liam Egan<\/strong> (9:09.37) and <strong>Grant Shoults<\/strong> (9:14.97) followed.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford dominated the diving events, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards. <strong>Bradley Christensen<\/strong> (385.35) won 1-meter, with<strong> Cameron Thatcher<\/strong> (324.90) in second. <strong>Ted Miclau<\/strong> (363.98) won 3-meter, with <strong>Tarek Abdelghany<\/strong> (353.78) and Thatcher (342.60) completing the sweep.<\/p>\n<p>The teams next compete at the Pac-12 Championships Mar. 1-4 in Federal Way, Wash.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Dan D\u2019Addona.
