Olympians\u00a0<strong>Kierra Smith\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Lilly King<\/strong> will show down in the women&#8217;s 200 breast, while\u00a0<strong>Li Zhesi\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Siobhan Haughey\u00a0<\/strong>are set up for a sprint duel in the 100 free.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2017-big-ten-womens-swimming-and-diving-championships-day-4-prelims-day-4\/ncaa-college\/2017\/February\/15\" target=\"_blank\">2017 Big Ten Women&#8217;s Swimming &amp; Diving Championships, Day 4 Prelims &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>200 Back Prelims:<\/h3>\n<p>The 200 back prelims were highlighted by three women posting 1:52&#8217;s. Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kennedy Goss\u00a0<\/strong>led the charge with the top qualifying time of 1:52.02, while Wisconsin&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Elizabeth Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the second place seed with a 1:52.31.\u00a0<strong>Clara Smiddy\u00a0<\/strong>of Michigan rounded out the top three qualifiers with a time of 1:52.43.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabriel Deloof\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the fourth place seed with a 1:54.31, while Rutgers&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Vera Koprivova\u00a0<\/strong>finished fifth with a 1:54.66.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tevyn Waddell<\/strong> (1:54.85), Nebraska&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Erin Oeltjen<\/strong> (1:55.17), and Minnesota&#8217;s<strong> Chantal Nack<\/strong> (1:55.24) return as sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>100 Free Prelims:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Li Zhesi<\/strong> of Ohio State flirted with a sub 48-second swim this morning, posting the top time at a 48.08 to qualify first in the 100 free prelims. Michigan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Siobhan Haughey\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the second place seed with a 48.17, while Minnesota&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zoe Avestruz<\/strong> turned in a 48.33 for third.<\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin placed three women in the &#8216;A&#8217; final as\u00a0<strong>Chase Kinney<\/strong> (48.38),\u00a0<strong>Emmy Sehmann<\/strong> (49.02), and\u00a0<strong>Marissa Berg\u00a0<\/strong>(49.03) return as fourth, sixth, and seventh respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Catherine Deloof<\/strong> of Michigan turned in a 48.95 for the fifth place seed, while Northwestern&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Annika Winsnes<\/strong> posted a 49.33 for eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>200 Breast Prelims:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Kierra Smith<\/strong> of Minnesota downed the 200 breast pool record at Purdue University with a qualifying time of 2:06.81 in prelims. The previous record of 2:07.30 was set by Purdue&#8217;s own\u00a0<strong>Emily Fogle<\/strong> in 2015.\u00a0Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lilly King<\/strong> picked up the second place seed for tonight&#8217;s final with a 2:07.67, setting the two of them up for a strong battle in tonight&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Taylor Fargo\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the third place seed with a time of 2:08.56, followed closely by Wisconsin&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maria Carlson&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>2:08.89.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emily Kopas<\/strong> of Michigan took fifth with a 2:09.99, while\u00a0<strong>Emma Sougstad<\/strong> of Iowa returns as sixth with a 2:10.62.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lindsey Horejsi<\/strong> and Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Laura Morley\u00a0<\/strong>complete the top eight qualifiers with times of 2:10.75 and 2:11.50 respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>200 Fly Prelims:<\/h3>\n<p>Prelims of the 200 fly saw all eight of the top qualifiers posting qualifying times within .73 seconds of one another. B1G record holder\u00a0<strong>Gia Dalesandro\u00a0<\/strong>of Indiana led the charge with a 1:56.26, followed closely by Michigan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Astrid Swensen&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a01:56.30.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Danielle Nack<\/strong> of Minnesota touched with a time of 1:56.46 for the third place seed, while Michigan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vanessa Krause<\/strong> grabbed fourth with a 1:56.68.<\/p>\n<p>Penn State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katelynn Sowinski\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.78), Purdue&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Taite Kitchel<\/strong> (1:56.91), Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bailey Pressey\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.93), and Ohio State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Meg Bailey\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.99) rounded out the top eight qualifiers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The fourth and final day of the 2017 Big Ten Women&#8217;s Swimming &amp; Diving Championships set up many showdowns for tonight&#8217;s final session.
