MOSCOW, Russia, May 11. THE Russian Long Course Nationals came to a close with Yuliya Efimova putting on a show in the women's sprint breast event.<\/p>\n
Efimova threw down the top women's 50 breaststroke time of the year with a smoking fast time of 30.69. She far surpassed Leisel Jones' previous world best of 30.87 set in March. The duo is the only two swimmers to clear 31 seconds this year. Valentina Artemiev took second in 32.08, while Catherine Burdin finished third in 32.49. <\/p>\n
"I am pleased with the result," Efimova told Russian Swimming<\/i>. "But, with the results coming in from around the world, I want to continue to improve my results. It was hard to prepare for this meet, because I had final exams in school."<\/p>\n
Andrey Grechin climbed to 14th in the world in the men's 50 free with a time of 22.34. Evgeny Lagunov placed second in 22.57, while Sergei Fesikov finished third in 22.68. <\/p>\n
Yana Martynova snatched the women's 200 fly crown in 2:10.27 to push into 17th place in the world rankings. Veronica Popova clinched second in 2:12.09, while Anna Kiseleva earned third in 2:16.45. <\/p>\n
Svetlana Fedulova claimed the women's 50 free title in 25.41, which moved her up to 22nd in the world this year. Margarite Nesterova finished second in 26.20, while Natalia Miselimyan placed third overall in 26.28. <\/p>\n
Alexander Tikhonov won the men's 400 IM in 4:19.99, claiming the 23rd spot in the world rankings. Ilya Volovnik finished second in 4:22.86, while Sergey Strelnikov wound up third in 4:25.34.<\/p>\n
