The third night of the 2017 B1G Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships saw many records topple down, including\u00a0Lilly King’s<\/strong> own 100 breast SCY American record. Fellow Hoosier\u00a0Gia Dalesandro<\/strong> and Michigan’s\u00a0Siobhan Haughey<\/strong> also nabbed new records.<\/p>\n

2017 Big Ten Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships, Day 3 Finals – Results<\/a><\/p>\n

  • 200 free<\/li>\n

    100 Fly Final:<\/h3>\n

    Indiana’s\u00a0Gia Dalesandro\u00a0<\/strong>and Ohio State’s\u00a0Li Zhesi<\/strong> held a tight race in finals of the women’s 100 fly. The two kicked off the night with both posting times beneath the previous B1G record of 51.42, set in November by Li.<\/p>\n

    Both swimmers posted times beneath the 51-second mark, but it was Dalesandro who took home the official win with a sizzling 50.45. Li settled for second and a final time of 50.90.<\/p>\n

    Michigan’s\u00a0Vanessa Krause<\/strong> grabbed the bronze with a time of 52.22, while Wisconsin’s\u00a0Elizabeth Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth with a 52.36.<\/p>\n

    Wisconsin’s\u00a0Dana Grindall<\/strong> (52.65), Minnesota’s\u00a0Danielle Nack<\/strong> (52.68),\u00a0Tevyn Waddell<\/strong> (52.70), and Indiana’s\u00a0Christine Jensen<\/strong> (53.08) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n

    \"b1g-w-100-fly\"<\/p>\n

    400 IM Final:<\/h3>\n

    Lindsey Clary\u00a0<\/strong>of Ohio State relied on a strong back half in the 400 IM final to claim the win over the field. After a strong opening fly leg from Penn’s Allyson<\/strong> McHugh<\/strong>, Clary pulled even and edged ahead in the backstroke, before widening her lead in the breaststroke leg. Clary brought home the win in a final time of 4:04.09 over McHugh’s second place finish of 4:06.27.<\/p>\n

    Wisconsin’s\u00a0Danielle Valley<\/strong> picked up the bronze with a 4:08.33, followed closely by the Ohio State duo of\u00a0Meg Bailey<\/strong> (4:08.35) and\u00a0Kathrine Demler<\/strong> (4:09.74).<\/p>\n

    Michigan’s\u00a0Bi Yirong<\/strong> (4:10.15), Indiana’s\u00a0Samantha Lisy<\/strong> (4:12.15), and Minnesota’s\u00a0Breanna Siwicki<\/strong> (4:12.87) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n

    \"b1g-w-400-im\"<\/p>\n

    200 Free Final:<\/h3>\n

    Michigan’s\u00a0Siobhan Haughey\u00a0<\/strong>commanded the final of the 200 free from start to finish, successfully lowering her own B1G championship meet (1:42.93) and conference (1:42.51) records. Haughey touched in a final time of 1:42.49, which also slid past the pool record of 1:42.84 set in 2010 by\u00a0Allison Schmitt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Cierra Runge<\/strong> of Wisconsin picked up a strong second place finish with a time of 1:43.78, while fellow Michigan wolverine\u00a0Gabrielle Deloof<\/strong> finished third with a time of 1:44.22.<\/p>\n

    Kennedy Goss<\/strong> of Indiana grabbed fourth with a 1:44.30, followed by Michigan’s\u00a0G. Ryan<\/strong> and her time of 1:45.12.<\/p>\n

    Indiana’s\u00a0Maria Heitmann<\/strong> (1:45.77), Purdue’s\u00a0Kaersten Meitz<\/strong> (1:46.09), and Michigan’s\u00a0Rebecca Postoll<\/strong> (1:46.10) were sixth through eighth respectively.<\/p>\n

    \"b1g-w-200-free\"<\/p>\n

    100 Breast Final:<\/h3>\n

    Lilly King<\/strong>\u00a0of Indiana delivered a dominating performance in the finals of the women’s 100 breast at the 2017 Women’s Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Purdue University.<\/p>\n

    King, the current American, B1G, and pool record holder, smashed a series of her own records en route to the gold medal and her second individual win of the meet.<\/p>\n

    The 20-year-old Olympian stopped the clock at a sizzling 56.30 to reset the entire record book. Her time lowers her own American, NCAA, and B1G record of 56.85, along with the B1G Championship meet record of 57.35, and the pool record of 57.46.<\/p>\n

    The Minnesota duo of\u00a0Lindsey Horejsi\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Kierra Smith<\/strong> held a tight race for second and third respectively, stopping the clock at final times of 58.90 and 58.95.<\/p>\n

    Emma Sougstad<\/strong> of Iowa grabbed a fourth place finish of 59.31, followed by Michigan’s\u00a0Emily Kopas’\u00a0<\/strong>59.54.<\/p>\n

    Wisconsin’s\u00a0Maria Carlson<\/strong> (1:00.36), Minnesota’s\u00a0Rachel Munson<\/strong> (1:00.65), and Purdue’s\u00a0Cady Farlow<\/strong> (1:00.80) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n

    \"b1g-w-100-breast\"<\/p>\n

    100 Back Final:<\/h3>\n

    Tevyn Waddell<\/strong> of Minnesota and\u00a0Clara Smiddy\u00a0<\/strong>of Michigan held a tight battle for first in the 100 back ‘A’ final. The two flipped in-sync at the 50-yard mark with matching splits of 25.44, but it was Waddell who had just a tiny bit more gas in the tank in the final yards of the race. Waddell stopped the clock at a 52.09 over Smiddy’s 52.11 for the title.<\/p>\n

    Wisconsin’s\u00a0Elizabeth Nelson<\/strong> picked up third with a time of 52.18, while Minnesota’s\u00a0Zoe Avestruz<\/strong> grabbed fourth with a time of 52.49.<\/p>\n

    Jessica Unicomb<\/strong> of Wisconsin turned in a 52.63 for fifth, followed by Indiana’s\u00a0Gia Dalesandro<\/strong> and her time of 52.68.<\/p>\n

    Michigan’s\u00a0Gabrielle Deloof<\/strong> and Indiana’s\u00a0Alexandra Rockett<\/strong> finished seventh and eighth with times of 52.96 and 53.00 respectively.<\/p>\n

    \"b1g-w-100-back\"<\/p>\n

    3-Meter Diving Final:<\/h3>\n

    Minnesota placed three divers in the top four spots of the 3-meter diving finals.\u00a0Zhou Yu<\/strong> led the charge with a first place score of 413.65 to be the only diver to score above 400. Teammates\u00a0Sarah Bacon<\/strong> and\u00a0Lexi Tenenbaum<\/strong> picked up the third and fourth place spots with scores of 384.30 and 378.95 respectively.<\/p>\n

    Nebraska’s\u00a0Anna Filipcic<\/strong> picked up the second place spot with a final score of 387.35.<\/p>\n

    Indiana’s\u00a0Jessica Parratto\u00a0<\/strong>(358.95), Ruter’s\u00a0Addi Walkowiak<\/strong> (332.45), and Purdue’s\u00a0Samantha Reese<\/strong> (321.05) and\u00a0Morgan Meixner<\/strong> (281.40) finished fifth through eighth.<\/p>\n

    \"b1g-w-3-meter-diving\"<\/p>\n

    200 Free Relay:<\/h3>\n

    Wisconsin edged out Ohio State for the top spot on the podium in the finals of the 200 free relay. The relay team of\u00a0Emmy Sehmann<\/strong>\u00a0(22.36), Chase Kinney<\/strong>\u00a0(21.47), Jessica\u00a0<\/strong>Unicom\u00a0<\/b>22.10), and\u00a0Marissa Berg<\/strong>\u00a0(21.97) teamed up for a final time of 1:27.90.<\/p>\n

    Ohio State’s\u00a0Macie McNichols\u00a0<\/strong>(22.43),\u00a0Li Zhesi<\/strong> (21.07),\u00a0Maria Coy<\/strong> (22.12), and\u00a0Cheyenne Meek<\/strong> (22.37) finished second with a time of 1:27.99.<\/p>\n

    Vanessa Krause<\/strong> (22.59),\u00a0Gabrielle Deloof<\/strong> (21.89),\u00a0Catherine Deloof<\/strong> (22.12), and\u00a0Siobhette Haughey\u00a0<\/strong>(21.77) of Michigan completed the top three with a final time of 1:28.37.<\/p>\n

    Indiana finished fourth overall with a 1:30.41, followed by Purdue’s 1:30.88.<\/p>\n

    Penn St (1:31.01), Northwestern’s (1:31.11), and Minnesota’s (1:31.11) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n
