For more information about Agon, visit their website\u00a0<\/i><i><i><a href=\"https:\/\/agonswim.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AgonSwim.com<\/a>.<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><em>By Erin Himes, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The men and women of Maggie Walker Governor School won Virginia 2A State Championships in convincing fashion.<\/p>\n<p>The meet kicked off with the 200 medley relay, which the Maggie Walker Governor School men won with the team of <strong>Ethan Choo<\/strong>, <strong>William Kemmerly<\/strong>, <strong>Noah Ratliff<\/strong>, and <strong>Nicholas McClure<\/strong> producing a 1:42.34. They were followed by the George Mason High School team of <strong>Justin Britton<\/strong>, <strong>Adam Janicki<\/strong>, <strong>Sam Updike<\/strong>, and <strong>Noah Surette<\/strong> in 1:42.39. In third was <strong>Evan Lynch<\/strong>, <strong>Matt DeJager<\/strong>, <strong>John Morrow<\/strong>, and <strong>Matthew Shaffer<\/strong> of Bruton High School Panthers in 1:47.86.<\/p>\n<p>On the women&#8217;s side, Maggie Walker Governor School also won gold with the team of <strong>Isabella Dula<\/strong>,<strong> Quinn Keatly<\/strong>, <strong>Adeline Cullen<\/strong>, and<strong> Emily Mortimer<\/strong> finishing in 1:56.49. <strong>Abbie Thompson<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Cassie Wheeler<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Madilyn Wheeler<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Carly Griffith\u00a0<\/strong>of Glenvar High School finished second in 1:58.85 and <strong>Camryn Reshetar<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Maeve Lyman<\/strong>, <strong>Sinead Juday<\/strong>, and <strong>Cynthia Fairbanks\u00a0<\/strong>of Clark County High School took third in 1:59.70.<\/p>\n<p>Lynch of Bruton High School took first in the 200 free in 1:46.02, breaking the 2A state record. In second and third were<strong> Tory Farmer<\/strong> and Ratliff of Maggie Walker Governor School in 1:50.91 and 1:51.24, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>On the women&#8217;s side, <strong>Claudia Gohn<\/strong> of Madison County High School won in 1:59.76. <strong>Jenny Schuster<\/strong> of Bruton High School Panthers placed second with 2:01.65. <strong>Bre Coley<\/strong> of Marion Senior High School placed third in 2:03.27.<\/p>\n<p>McClure won the men&#8217;s 200 IM in 1:58.93 and his teammate Choo finished second in 2:05.04. Janicki finished third in 2:08.86.<\/p>\n<p>Madilyn Wheeler took the women&#8217;s 200 IM in 2:14.63. Keatley took second place in 2:16.56 and <strong>Caroline Helwig<\/strong> of Bruton High School Panthers took third place in 2:18.39.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 50 free saw another record fall, with Britton winning in 21.12. Morrow took second in 22.35 and <strong>TJ Roche<\/strong> took third in 22.63.<\/p>\n<p>On the women&#8217;s side, <strong>Ashley Funkhouser<\/strong> of Central Woodstock won in 24.65. <strong>Grace Wohlford<\/strong> of Radford High School took second in 25.35 and <strong>Sigrid Edson<\/strong> of George Mason High School took third in 25.70.<\/p>\n<p>In 1 meter diving,<strong> Ben Dillon<\/strong> of Madison County took first with a score of 287.25.\u00a0<strong>Michael Howard<\/strong> of Virginia High School Bearcats took second in 283.90 and<strong> Jakob Hansen<\/strong> of East Rockingham High took third in 195.60.<\/p>\n<p>In women&#8217;s diving, <strong>Allie Bekenstein<\/strong> of Maggie Walker won with 380.25 while her teammate<strong> Anna Jepson<\/strong> took second in 372.40.<strong>\u00a0Carlee Huffman<\/strong> of East Rockingham took third in 312.05.<\/p>\n<p>The meet champions swept the men&#8217;s 100 fly. McClure picked up another win with a 52.46, Ratliff took second in 53.46, and<strong> Elliot Cade<\/strong> took third in 55.33.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ashley Cusano<\/strong>\u00a0of Union High School broke the state record in the women&#8217;s race, swimming a 57.18. Gohn took second in 1:00.67 and <strong>Lauren Johnston<\/strong> of Chincoteague High School took third in 1:01.79.<\/p>\n<p>Next up was the men&#8217;s 100 free, where Morrow won in 48.30. <strong>Bradley Walker<\/strong> of Marion Senior High School took second in 48.51 and Roche took third in 49.54.<\/p>\n<p>Funkhouser won the women&#8217;s race in 54.28, breaking the state record. Lyman took second in 55.78 and\u00a0Wohlford took third in 56.23.<\/p>\n<p>Lynch dominated the 500 freestyle on the men&#8217;s side, finishing in 4:53.38.\u00a0<strong>Derek Sprincis<\/strong> of Clarke County High School in 5:18.85. In third was <strong>Rowan McDowell<\/strong> of Maggie Walker in 5:27.80.<\/p>\n<p>Schuster won the women&#8217;s race in 5:30.77. <strong>Kaylie Lundgren<\/strong> of Maggie Walker took second in 5:38.04 and her teammate <strong>Sylvia Sims<\/strong> took third in 5:41.71.<\/p>\n<p>Maggie Walker Governor School won yet again in the men&#8217;s 200 free relay, with the team of\u00a0<strong>Henry Paulson<\/strong>, Cade, Farmer, and<strong> Benjamin Widener<\/strong> finishing in 1:31.49, a new state record. The George Mason High School team of Roche, <strong>Matthew Ng<\/strong>, Updike, and <strong>Daniel Reinfurt<\/strong> took second in 1:31.62. In third was Radford High School in 1:35.34 with the team of<strong> Mark Johnston<\/strong>,<strong> Michael Wohlford<\/strong>, <strong>Nicholas Harvey<\/strong>, and <strong>Jack Flora<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The meet champions won the women&#8217;s relay as well in 1:33.89 with the team of <strong>Christine Kemmerly<\/strong>, <strong>Olivia Willis<\/strong>, <strong>Eva Beck<\/strong>, and Mortimer. Bruton High School took second in 1:47.49 with a team of Helwig, <strong>Gina Lynch<\/strong>, Schuster, and <strong>Mallory Downey<\/strong>. The women of Clarke County High School finished third in 1:48.84. The team was comprised of\u00a0<strong>Emily David<\/strong>,<strong> Natalie Lymen<\/strong>, Fairbanks, and Maeve Lymen.<\/p>\n<p>Britton won the men&#8217;s 100 back in 52.04, followed by Choo in 53.12 and Elliott in 54.51.<\/p>\n<p>On the women&#8217;s side, Cusano picked up another victory in 56.76, breaking the state record. Helwig took second in 1:01.32 and Dula took third in 1:02.85.<\/p>\n<p>Janicki won the men&#8217;s 100 breaststroke in 1:03.08. He was followed by Walker with 1:03.10 and Updike in 1:03.21.<\/p>\n<p>Cassie Wheeler won the women&#8217;s race in 1:11.14. Maeve Lyman took second in 1:11.25 and Keatley took third in 1:12.18.<\/p>\n<p>The final event of the night was the 400 freestyle relay, which the George Mason High School men took home the gold in. The team of Britton, Ng, Reinfurt, and Roche finished in 3:18.80. In second was Maggie Walker Governor School with Farmer, Ratliff, Paulson, and McClure finishing in 3:21.03. The top three was rounded out by Marion Senior High School, with <strong>Tanner Debord<\/strong>, <strong>Tate McDowell<\/strong>,<strong> Logan Cale<\/strong>, and Walker finishing in 3:30.63.<\/p>\n<p>The Maggie Walker ladies took home their final win of the night in the 400 free relay. Cullen, Dula, Kemmerly, and Keatley finished in 3:54.27. The George Mason High School team of\u00a0<strong>Elly Loyd<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Hannah Rollins<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mackenzie Loi<\/strong>, and Edson finished second in 3:58.09.
