PERTH, Australia, May 6. FOURTEEN Australian Masters records went down at the West Australian State Championships held at Challenge Stadium held in short course mode over the May 1 and 2 weekend.<\/p>\n
Paula Hill of West Coast Masters Club took down Cathy Codling's 1999 35-39 years 50m Freestyle record by 0.08 seconds in 27.98 seconds. She also shaved 0.06 seconds off Sarah James' 50m Breaststroke record set at last month's Australian championships in a time of 35.30 seconds.<\/p>\n
Somerset's Joyce O'Farrell took more than three seconds off Joan Godsall's 2008 90-94 years 50m Freestyle time in 1:05.06, and more than 13 seconds off Godsall's 2008 100m Freestyle time in 2:28.20.<\/p>\n
At the other end of the age spectrum, Swan Hills Club's 18 year old Ashlinne Zoranich took the 18-24 years 25m Breaststroke record of Alisha Margrison down from 17.07 seconds to 16.84 seconds.<\/p>\n
Ian Fergus of the Narrogin Club, based 160 kilometres south-east of Perth, set three records in the 65-69 years age group, each time breaking records set last month at the Australian Championships. He took 0.74 seconds off Brian Walsh's 25m Breaststroke mark in a time of 17.06 seconds, took Henry Vagner's 25m Butterfly time down by precisely a second in a new mark of 13.99 seconds and took Vagner's 50m Butterfly time down from 34.57 seconds to 31.82 seconds. In the same age group, Vic Paul of Bold Park Masters Club took more than 12 seconds off Colin Mayrhofer's 2007 200m Butterfly time in a new mark of 3:01.01. At a long course meet the previous week, Vic Paul broke John Crisp's national 800m IM record from 2000 by over a minute in a new time of 13:16.70.<\/p>\n
Claremont Club's Anthony Dunne set a new mark of 14.41 seconds in the 45-49 years 25m Breaststroke, 0.05 seconds under Stuart Moffart's 2008 time. He also took 1.50 seconds off Mark Smedley's 2008 200m Breaststroke record in a new time of 2:37.58.<\/p>\n
Osborne Park Club's John Fussell also took down a time from the national meet, taking the 60-64 years 25m Backstroke record from Patrick Devine in 16.08 seconds, a drop of 0.15 seconds. Devine had beaten Fussell by 0.01 seconds in that swim.<\/p>\n
Claremont Club broke two national relay records. Women's 160-199 years 4 x 25m Freestyle team of Lauren Thomas, Nicola Corsbie, Sally Bell and Trish Burton swam 57.81 seconds to claim the national record by 0.23 seconds. Claremont's mixed 200-239 years 4 x 25m Medley relay team of Sally Bell, Nicola Corsbie, Gary Bradley and Paul Blackbeard took 0.22 seconds off the time set by the club's relay team at the recent national meet in a new time of 1:00.31.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
