Day one of the American Athletic Conference took place today at the University of Houston.<\/p>\n

2017 American Athletic Conference Day 1 Finals – Results<\/a><\/p>\n

Cincinnati took gold in the women’s 800 free relay to begin the meet. The team of\u00a0Sara Wanasek\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.16),\u00a0Michaela Wheeler\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.50),\u00a0Sarah Laabs\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.73), and\u00a0Jacqueline Keire\u00a0<\/strong>(1:42.68) posted a time of 7:10.07.<\/p>\n

Keire had the fastest split in the field by nearly three seconds.<\/p>\n

East Carolina’s\u00a0Marion Abert\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.56),\u00a0Stefanie Scherwitzel\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.92),\u00a0Anna Svanbergsson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.40),\u00a0and\u00a0Tori Angermeier\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.51) took second in 7:11.39. Southern Methodist’s\u00a0Maddie Hoch\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.82),\u00a0Ursa Bezan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.06),\u00a0Adri Santa\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.95), and\u00a0Vicky Cunningham\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.71) took a close third in 7:11.54.<\/p>\n

East Carolina opened the men’s meet by taking gold in the 800 free relay. The foursome of\u00a0Fran Krznaric\u00a0<\/strong>(1:37.39),\u00a0Grega Popovic\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.74),\u00a0John Myhre\u00a0<\/strong>(1:35.30), and\u00a0Blaz Demsar\u00a0<\/strong>(1:36.38) finished in 6:27.81.<\/p>\n

Connecticut’s\u00a0Will Kearsey\u00a0<\/strong>(1:36.07),\u00a0James Donlevy\u00a0<\/strong>(1:36.59),\u00a0Kyle Kimura\u00a0<\/strong>(1:39.35), and\u00a0Chris Girg\u00a0<\/strong>(1:37.73) took second in 6:29.74, just ahead of Southern Methodist’s\u00a0Bartosz Krzyzaniak\u00a0<\/strong>(1:37.11),\u00a0Lucas Schenke\u00a0<\/strong>(1:37.36),\u00a0Carson Klein\u00a0<\/strong>(1:37.54),\u00a0and\u00a0Christian Scherubl\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.10) in 6:30.11.<\/p>\n

Connecticut swept the podium\u00a0in the women’s 1m diving event. Senior\u00a0Alli Butera\u00a0<\/strong>took gold with 282.50\u00a0points ahead of teammate\u00a0Monica Marcello<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(280.85).\u00a0Michelle Kalups\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the\u00a0top three with 272.80 points.<\/p>\n

Southern Methodist’s\u00a0Bryce Klein\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the men’s 3m diving event. The junior won with 436.45\u00a0points, 116 points ahead of the runner-up. His score\u00a0broke his own meet record he set this morning during prelims.<\/p>\n

Cincinnati’s\u00a0Louie Hunt\u00a0<\/strong>dove to second with 320.30 points and Connecticut’s\u00a0Dan Kinney <\/strong>took third with 316.70\u00a0points.<\/p>\n

Southern Methodist’s\u00a0Matea Samardzic\u00a0<\/strong>(24.75),\u00a0Tara Nicholas\u00a0<\/strong>(27.69),\u00a0Marne Erasmus\u00a0<\/strong>(23.43), and\u00a0Hannah Rogers\u00a0<\/strong>(22.40) took gold in the women’s 200 medley relay. They finished with a time of 1:38.27.<\/p>\n

Houston’s\u00a0Eleanna Koutsouveli\u00a0<\/strong>(25.24),\u00a0Peyton Kondis\u00a0<\/strong>(27.27),\u00a0Laura Laderoute\u00a0<\/strong>(24.03), and\u00a0Caitlin Horner\u00a0<\/strong>(22.63) took second in 1:39.17 and Cincinnati’s\u00a0Lindsey Niehaus\u00a0<\/strong>(25.85),\u00a0Kennedy Herbert\u00a0<\/strong>(27.99),\u00a0Katie Gob\u00a0<\/strong>(24.39), and\u00a0Michaela Wheeler\u00a0<\/strong>(23.02) finished third in 1:41.25.<\/p>\n

Southern Methodist’s\u00a0Krzyzaniak (22.13),\u00a0Ziga Cerkovnik\u00a0<\/strong>(24.19),\u00a0Szymon Golczyk\u00a0<\/strong>(20.88), and\u00a0Ralph Koo\u00a0<\/strong>(19.80) narrowly won the men’s 200 medley relay to conclude day one. They finished in a time of 1:27.00.<\/p>\n

East Carolina’s\u00a0Krznaric (22.75),\u00a0Will Hicks\u00a0<\/strong>(23.82),\u00a0Gustavo Santos\u00a0<\/strong>(20.67), and\u00a0Victor Martins Dos Santos\u00a0<\/strong>(19.87) took a close second in 1:27.11. Cincinnati’s\u00a0Eitan Holder\u00a0<\/strong>(23.35),\u00a0Ludovico\u00a0<\/strong>Corsini\u00a0<\/strong>(24.06),\u00a0John Mataxas\u00a0<\/strong>(21.63), and\u00a0Connor Davis\u00a0<\/strong>(20.01) finished third in 1:29.05.<\/p>\n
