Cielo clocked a smoking 21.80 to win the splash-and-dash. That swim improved upon his season-best effort of 22.13 from March, and is the second fastest in the world this year behind only Fred Bousquet's 21.71 posted in April. Only three swimmers have cleared 22 seconds this year as Fabien Gilot (21.97) is the only other swimmer to have claimed that honor. Bruno Fratus finished second today in 22.30, while Nicholas Dos Santos touched third in 22.77.<\/p>\n
Thiago Pereira matched his season-best time in the men's 400 IM with a 4:17.59. That swim matched his previous best from the Missouri Grand Prix in February, which ranked him 13th in the world this year. Renato Barufi finished well back with a second-place 4:27.81, while Thiago Simon pocketed third in 4:28.97. <\/p>\n
Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato claimed the women's 50 free crown in 25.27. This performance moved her up to 14th in the world rankings, just ahead of Germany's Dorothea Brandt, who boasts a 25.29 from March. Mary De Souza finished second in 26.12, while Tatiana Barbosa placed third in 26.14. <\/p>\n
Barbosa cruised to victory in the women's 200 free with a winning effort of 2:01.62. Manuella Lyrio knocked off Poliana Okimoto, 2:03.53 to 2:03.57, in the battle for second place in the event. In a close contest for the men's 200 free title, Austria's Markus Rogan tripped up Andre Schultz and Vinicius Rocha Waked with a top time of 1:50.42. Schultz (1:50.66) and Waked (1:50.78) finished just behind with second and third-place outings.<\/p>\n
