COLUMBIA, Missouri, May 3. SWIMMING World<\/i> has learned that University of Arizona assistant coach Greg Rhodenbaugh will be named head coach of the University of Missouri program.<\/p>\n
Rhodenbaugh finished his 11th season with the Wildcats last season and has some experience as a head coach in the past.<\/p>\n
In 1988-89, Rhodenbaugh was the interim head coach for Southern Methodist University, when he received Southwest Conference men's swimming Co-Coach-of-the-Year honors. He was an assistant coach at SMU from 1984-88, and prior to that; he lettered four years for the Mustangs' swim team. Since coaching at his alma mater, he has coached someone in every Olympics, many of them medaling at the games. Some of his more notable past swimmers include: Amanda Beard (2 gold, 4 silver,1 bronze), Ryan Berube (1 gold), Ricardo Prado (1 silver), Lars Frolander (1 gold, 2 silver). <\/p>\n
A 1984 graduate of SMU, Rhodenbaugh captained the 1983-84 team that finished fifth at the NCAA Championships. He earned five All-America honors that season in the breaststroke and on SMU's relay teams. Rhodenbaugh won the 200m breaststroke at the 1982 U.S. National Sports Festival and was a member of the United States team at the 1983 World University Games. Under the tutelage of Arizona head coach Frank Busch in 1979 and 1980, Rhodenbaugh swam for the Cincinnati Marlins and was a member of the Marlins' national long course championship team in 1980. <\/p>\n
