STATEN ISLAND, New York, April 19. AFTER starting the women's swimming program 13 years ago, Wagner College Athletic Director Walt Hameline announced that the school will add diving to its Olympic sports roster beginning with the 2010-11 season.<\/p>\n
"We are excited to add women's diving to our swim program. This will be an immeasurable help to the swim program and will provide additional opportunities for student-athletes to compete here at Wagner College," said Director of Athletics Walt Hameline. <\/p>\n
Wagner will be among three swim teams in the Northeast Conference that will also compete in diving. Currently, Sacred Heart University and Central Connecticut State University are the other teams in the conference that field a diving team. <\/p>\n
"We are extremely excited to be starting our diving program here at Wagner," said Head Coach Mark Sowa. "This was something I have wanted to get accomplished since I arrived on campus almost two years ago and I am extremely grateful that I work with an administration that is willing to think creatively in order to give more student-athletes opportunities to compete. <\/p>\n
"The addition of this team will make us even more competitive in our conference as well as nationally," Sowa added. "We look forward to watching our divers on the boards next season and will continue to actively recruit more athletes throughout the remaining school year. Additionally I believe that we will be able to find a qualified and energetic coach who is as excited about this opportunity as we are." <\/p>\n
A national search is currently underway for the diving team head coach.<\/p>\n
