Taylor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/georgia-high-school-state-championships-finals-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">broke two Georgia state records this weekend<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, just missing <\/span><b>David Nolan\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Public High School record in the 100 backstroke by .04.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Performance of the Week -- Feb. 7, 2017 - Michael Taylor\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FcctS6mDqek?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Posting a 45.75 in prelims, Taylor got as close to Nolan\u2019s record as anyone has since 2011 when he swam a time of 45.53 in the final. Nolan&#8217;s record still stands at 45.49. That is a huge drop for Taylor, and helps cement him as one of the key additions to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-taylor-verbally-commits-to-florida-gators\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Florida Gators freshman class next year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. His time would have placed fifth at NCAA Championships last year, a huge indicator of his scoring potential for Florida and welcome news for coach <\/span><b>Gregg Troy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He will be a more than worthy replacement for senior <\/span><b>Jack Blyzinskyj<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Florida\u2019s top backstroker who will be graduating this spring. Taylor also won the 200 free earlier in the State Championships, setting another state record with a 1:35.16, another huge personal best. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taylor is no stranger to the big stage, earning two final swims at Olympic Trials this summer, where he finished seventh in the 200 back and fifth in the 100 back.
