{"id":239666,"date":"2017-02-03T20:53:27","date_gmt":"2017-02-04T03:53:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=239666"},"modified":"2017-02-03T21:39:08","modified_gmt":"2017-02-04T04:39:08","slug":"olympians-sit-out-but-texas-sweeps-tcu-in-fort-worth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olympians-sit-out-but-texas-sweeps-tcu-in-fort-worth\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympians Sit Out But Texas Sweeps TCU in Fort Worth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Texas women and men, each ranked among the top three teams in the country in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nc-state-men-and-stanford-women-return-to-no-1-spot-in-cscaa-d-i-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\">the latest CSCAA poll<\/a>, traveled north to Fort Worth Friday for their only Big-12 dual meet of the season against Texas Christian University.<\/p>\n<p>The Longhorns finished first in almost every event contested. The women won 122-91, while the men came out on top by a margin of 122 to 100, even without the team&#8217;s four Olympic gold medalists (<strong>Joseph Schooling<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Townley Haas<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jack Conger\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Clark Smith<\/strong>) competing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will Licon\u00a0<\/strong>was in the pool, but he swam some off events after helping Texas win the meet-opening 200 medley relay with his usual breaststroke leg. He finished fourth in the 50 free in 21.25 and won the 500 free in 4:33.34.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Pj Dunne<\/strong> posted a 20.74 to win the 50 free, and teammate\u00a0<strong>Brett Ringgold\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 100 fly in 48.75. TCU&#8217;s only first-place finish in swimming came from\u00a0<strong>Tommy Thatch<\/strong>, who edged out Texas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Hayden Henry<\/strong>, 1:53.25 to 1:53.54, in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Like Licon,\u00a0<strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong> had the day off from her typical events, but she still managed victories in the women&#8217;s 100 fly (54.23) and 100 back (54.88).\u00a0Fellow senior\u00a0<strong>Tasija Karosas\u00a0<\/strong>did not swim any individual backstroke races, but she did pick up a big win in the 500 free in a time of 4:57.90.<\/p>\n<p>Also for the Longhorns,\u00a0<strong>Joanna Evans\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 IM in 2:02.02, and freshman\u00a0<strong>Lauren Case\u00a0<\/strong>took the 100 free in 51.98.
