{"id":239633,"date":"2017-02-03T01:17:18","date_gmt":"2017-02-03T08:17:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=239633"},"modified":"2017-02-03T13:09:26","modified_gmt":"2017-02-03T20:09:26","slug":"finals-at-unc-invitational-moved-to-duke-due-to-water-emergency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/finals-at-unc-invitational-moved-to-duke-due-to-water-emergency\/","title":{"rendered":"Finals at UNC Invitational Moved to Duke Due to Water Emergency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Due to a water main break in Chapel Hill, N.C., Friday night&#8217;s finals of the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup, a large college invitational being held at the University of North Carolina, were relocated ten miles northeast to Duke.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tonight&#39;s finals (6pm start) of Nike Cup have been moved to Duke&#39;s Taishoff Aquatics Pavillion due to OWASA water shortage. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GoHeels?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GoHeels<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Carolina Swimming &amp; Diving (@uncswimdive) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/uncswimdive\/status\/827605258604052481?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 3, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Aside from North Carolina and Duke, other teams competing at the meet include NC State, William &amp; Mary, James Madison, Old Dominion, UNC Wilmington, Towson, Florida State, South Carolina and Florida<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wral.com\/state-of-emergency-declared-in-chapel-hill-due-to-water-shortage\/16498975\/\" target=\"_blank\">a report from WRAL News<\/a>, a major water treatment plant closed down before\u00a0main broke, leaving a shortage of clean water. Residents have been encouraged not to drink or use tap water (let alone swim in it). Public schools were dismissed early, and UNC cancelled all classes after 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Do not use water for any purposes. Sunday&#8217;s competition is still scheduled to be held at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill,\u00a0pending a resolution to the current
