FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 8. THREE more YMCA records fell during the second night of action at the YMCA Short Course Nationals held in Florida. Overall, six marks have fallen during the first two days.<\/p>\n
Springfield's Margo Geer, who is heading to the University of Arizona next year, remained on a tear at the meet third YMCA record in as many tries with a 1:46.20 in the women's 200 free. That effort nipped the 1998 mark of 1:46.33 set by Stefanie Williams of Bloomsburg. Wilton's Shelby Fortin earned second in 1:47.75, while West Shore's Madeline Hoch grabbed third in 1:48.62. <\/p>\n
Sarasota's Nicholas Caldwell produced his second YMCA standard of the meet with a 9:00.17 in the men's 1000 free. He crushed the previous mark of 9:02.94 set by Charlie Houchin of Triangle Area in 2007. Alex Miller of M.E. Lyons took a distance second in 9:09.94, while Brandywine's Tom McKee placed third in 9:11.40. <\/p>\n
Wilton's Christian Higgins beat the YMCA record in the men's 200 breast during prelims with a time of 1:57.61. That effort wiped out the 1:58.28 set by Mike Alexandrov in 2003. Higgins then clocked a 1:58.42 in finals for the win. Red Bank's Harrison Cefalo touched second in 2:01.02, while Middle Tyger's Jared Kauffman earned third in 2:02.34. <\/p>\n
Pottstown's John Hauser claimed the men's 200 free in 1:38.99, while McKee took second in 1:39.07. Hilliker's J.J. Spangler completed the top three in 1:39.22, while Ethan Griffel (1:39.49), Matt Taylor (1:39.55) and Miller (1:39.73) all cleared 1:40 in the finale.<\/p>\n
Sanford's Jenni Roberts claimed the women's 100 fly in 54.23, while Middle Tyger's Haley Lips took second in 54.51. Triangle Area's Sabrina Benson wound up third in 54.94. Schroeder's Mitchell Friedemann won the men's 100 fly in 48.66, while Triangle Area's Dominick Glavich placed close behind in 48.82 for second. Spokane's Coleman Allen earned third in 49.04. <\/p>\n
Wilton's K.C. Moss just missed Amy Wheatley's 2002 YMCA mark of 2:12.47 with a winning time of 2:12.78 in the women's 200 breast. Eau Claire's Leah Pronschinske finished second in 2:13.15, while New Canaan's Olivia Leunis earned third in 2:16.11. <\/p>\n
Northwest's Kelly Ann Baird captured the women's 1000 free in 9:44.59, while Sarasota's Danielle Valley finished second in 9:49.02. Sarasota's Katheryne Muth took third in 9:58.57. <\/p>\n
