CALIFORNIA banked a ton of points in the men&#39;s 100 fly, led by national titlist Tom Shields.<\/p>\n<p>Shields checked in with a scintillating time of 44.91, which moved the former <i>Swimming World Magazine<\/i> High School Swimmer of the Year to fifth all time.  Only Austin Staab (44.18), Albert Subirats (44.57), Tyler McGill (44.63) and Ian Crocker (44.72) have been faster. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;I feel great, I&#39;ve got to go. I&#39;ve got more swims,&quot; Shields said shortly after the race, and immediately prior to swimming in the 200 free consolation heat.<\/p>\n<p>The win is California&#39;s fourth all time in the event.  Par Arvidsson won back-to-back titles in 1979 (47.76) and 1980 (47.36), while Duje Draganja topped the event in 2005 (45.39). <\/p>\n<p>Cal picked up plenty of points in the event with three swimmers in the top eight. Mathias Gydesen took second in 45.83, while Graeme Moore placed fifth in 46.05 to tie North Carolina&#39;s Tommy Wyher. Nathan Adrian also checked in with a 46.73 for 13th. Stanford&#39;s Eugene Godsoe completed the top three with a time of 45.96.<\/p>\n<p>Cal took a substantial lead with 246.5 points, while Texas remained second with 211 points.
