The Indiana University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams swept rival Purdue on Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind.<\/p>\n

The No. 4-ranked Indiana men’s team moved to 10-0 on the dual-meet season with a 182.5-117.5 win over Purdue. The No. 14 IU women’s team improved to 7-3 on the year in dual meets with a 155-139 victory.<\/p>\n

For the first time this season, the Hoosiers competed in the platform dive. Jessica Parratto<\/strong>, the 2015 NCAA Champion in the event, won for the Hoosiers with a score of 300.00.<\/p>\n

On the men’s side, James Connor<\/strong>, a two-time Olympian for Australia, gave 2015 NCAA Champion and Olympian Steele<\/strong> Johnson<\/strong> all he could handle, placing second with a score of 423.30. Johnson squeaked out the win with a total of 436.60.<\/p>\n

The Hoosier men continued to dominate in the 200 freestyle, with Marwan Elkamash<\/strong> leading a 1-2 finish. Elkamash won with a NCAA B cut time of 1:37.30, while Jackson Miller<\/strong> was second in 1:39.12.<\/p>\n

Indiana won both the men’s and women’s 100 backstroke, with Ali Rocket<\/strong>t taking first in a time of 55.41 and Bob Glover<\/strong> winning it with a mark of 48.68.<\/p>\n

Lilly King<\/strong>, the defending NCAA and Olympic champion in the 100 breaststroke, continued to dominate, winning the event with a NCAA B cut time of 1:00.93. King, also the defending NCAA champion in the 200 breaststroke, won the event against Purdue with a NCAA B cut time of 2:13.33.<\/p>\n

Purdue’s Kaersten Meitz<\/strong> was victorious in all four events in which she competed, sweeping the 200, 500 and 1,000 free while also anchoring the 400 free relay to victory. She won the 1,000 vs. IU for the third year in a row. Danielle Auckley<\/strong> was victorious in the 50 and 100 free while also contributing to the victory in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n

Along with Johnson, Marat Amaltdinov<\/strong> (200 breast) and Nick McDowell<\/strong> (1,000 free) won events for Purdue.<\/p>\n

Iowa sweeps Northwestern<\/h3>\n

A victory in the 400-freestyle relay clinched the University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team’s 156-144 win over Northwestern on senior day.<\/p>\n

The Hawkeye men defeated the Wildcats, 166-134.<\/p>\n

The Iowa women led 143-140 with the outcome in the balance heading into the final event of the dual. The quartet of Hannah Burvill, Meghan Lavelle, Allyssa Fluit<\/strong> and Carly O’Brien<\/strong> edged Northwestern to win the race and dual. Iowa finished with a time of 3:23.91; the Wildcats were second in 3:24.18.<\/p>\n

The win was the fourth of the day for Burvill, a freshman from England. She was also part of the winning 200-medley relay (1:41.13) along with Lavelle, Emma Sougstad<\/strong> and Mekenna Scheitlin<\/strong> and swam to individual victories in the 100 (50.68) and 200 (1:49.26) free events.<\/p>\n

Sougstad also posted victories in the 100 breast (1:02.11) and 200 IM (2:03.38), Lavelle won the 100 back (55.49), and Scheitlin the 100 fly (55.29). Junior Shea Hoyt<\/strong> was victorious in the 200 breast with an NCAA “B” qualifying time of 2:15.95.<\/p>\n

For the Iowa men, Jerzy Twarowski<\/strong> swam to a pair of individual wins in the 100 (48.51) and 200 fly (1:49.18), while sophomore Kenneth Mende<\/strong> won the 100 back (49.61), Jack Smith<\/strong> the 100 free (45.48), Thomas Rathbun<\/strong> the 200 back (1:48.26), and Will Brenner<\/strong> the 1-meter springboard (343.35).<\/p>\n

For Northwestern, Olympian, Jordan Wilimovsky<\/strong> took the top spot in the 1,000 freestyle in 9:06.47.<\/p>\n

Wilimovsky also won the 500 free event in 4:27.96 and placed third in the 200 fly with a time of 1:50.76.<\/p>\n

Charlie Cole<\/strong> won the 200 free in 1:39.02.<\/p>\n

Ohio State tops Pitt, Michigan State<\/h3>\n

The Ohio State men defeated Pitt 168-123 on Saturday. Colin Zeng<\/strong> won 3-meter diving (443.60) and 1-meter with a score of 398.25.<\/p>\n

Brayden Seal<\/strong> earned a victory in the 1000 freestyle (9:18.37) before Josh Fleagle<\/strong> won the 200 freestyle (1:38.69). His relay partner Matt McHugh<\/strong> added another first place finish in the 100 backstroke (47.34) and Jack Barone<\/strong> did the same in the 100 breaststroke. His time of 56.23 just narrowly edged out Pitt\u2019s Bo Kulizhnikov<\/strong> by .09 seconds.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the Buckeyes rolled past Michigan State 179.5-62.5.<\/p>\n

Seall had a fantastic showing in the first individual event, the 1000 freestyle; his time of 9:16.75 was almost 11 seconds faster than the next-best finisher. Fleagle followed up his teammate with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:38.01). McHugh then earned a share of first place in the 50 freestyle, his time of 20.78 tied with Michigan State\u2019s Payton Woods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For the women, the Buckeyes beat Pitt 169-125 and defeated Akron 171-120 on Saturday. Liz Li<\/strong>\u2019s time of 22.49 was good enough to win the freestyle sprint and she outpaced the other swimmers in the 100 fly with her time of 53.98.<\/p>\n

Freshman Molly Kowal<\/strong> won the 1,000 freestyle and Lindsey Clary<\/strong> followed her up with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:50.11).<\/p>\n

On Friday, the OSU women defeated Michigan State 137-104. Li won the 100 butterfly in a pool-record 53.98.<\/p>\n

Michigan State tops Oakland<\/h3>\n

Michigan State swimming and diving men and women’s team defeated Oakland University on Saturday. The women won by a score of 157-143, while the men defeated Oakland 165-133.<\/p>\n

Cathryn Armstrong<\/strong> won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.23. Emily Burnett<\/strong> took first in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the pad at 2:03.51. Rachael Bukowski<\/strong> garnered another first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.08. Bukowski followed up with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.21. Sarah Love<\/strong> also tallied a first in the 100-yard butterfly for a time of 56.73.<\/p>\n

On the men’s side, junior Joe Szczupakiewicz<\/strong> picked up a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:27.66. Junior Nick Leshok<\/strong> kept it rolling for the Spartans with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.46. Senior Alec Kandt<\/strong> also picked up a first-place in the 100-yard breaststroke for a time of 54.84.<\/p>\n

Penn State sweeps Navy<\/h3>\n

Penn State swept Navy in a dual meet Saturday afternoon, with the women earning a 199-99 victory and the men a 173-127 victory.<\/p>\n

Senior Shane Ryan<\/strong> won three individual events for the men, breaking his own pool record in the 100 freestyle by touching in 42.99 seconds, and he rallied the 400 freestyle relay team to a come-from-behind victory on the final leg to close out the meet. His other individual event wins included the 50 free in 19.76 seconds \u2013 four-hundreths of a second shy of his own pool record set last week – and the 100 fly in 48.01.<\/p>\n

Four Nittany Lion women\u2019s swimmers won multiple events, including seniors Casey Francis<\/strong> and Katie Saloky<\/strong>. Senior Mackenzie Cornell<\/strong> swept the women\u2019s diving events, highlighted by a personal best score of 318.22 in the 3-meter.<\/p>\n

Nebraska defeats Illinois<\/h3>\n

Freshmen Abigail Knapton<\/strong> and Allie Worrall<\/strong> achieved career bests as the Nebraska swimming and diving team captured 169-131 victory at Illinois in the Huskers’ final dual of the season.<\/p>\n

Knapton\u2019s career-high 343.12 in the three-meter board led a sweep of the top three spots in the event. Senior All-American Anna Filipcic<\/strong> took second (317.55), while sophomore Katrina Voge<\/strong> added a third-place performance (281.17).<\/p>\n

The Huskers swept the top three spots in the 200-yard backstroke with senior captain Erin Oeltjen<\/strong> cruising to a victory (1:59.98), followed by teammate Anna McDonald<\/strong> in second (2:02.24) and Carla Gonzalez-Garcia<\/strong> in third (2:04.59). Oeltjen and McDonald added a sweep of the top two spots in the 100 back, with Oeltjen claiming the win in 56.42, while McDonald took second in 57.93.<\/p>\n

Illinois freshman Monica Guyett<\/strong> won the 1,000 freestyle, finishing in a time of 10:10.11. Senior Amelia Schilling<\/strong> won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.25.<\/p>\n

On senior day, the seniors kept rolling on the day as Audrey Rodawig<\/strong> and Schilling earned first place finishes in the 50 freestyle (24.13) and 500 freestyle (5:00.09), respectively.<\/p>\n

Rutgers splits duals<\/h3>\n

Rutgers senior Rachel Stoddard<\/strong> finished first in the 200 breaststroke and classmate Alyssa Black placed first in the 1-meter dive as Rutgers swimming and diving concluded competition against Cincinnati and Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

In dual action, the Scarlet Knights defeated the Bearcats, 223-130, but fell to the Hokies, 191-157.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
