The No. 6 Cal women’s swimming & diving team kicked off a two-day road trip with a 181-119 win at Arizona on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Golden Bears won 11 of the 16 events.<\/p>\n

Freshman Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> swept the 50 (22.52) and 100 freestyle (49.90) events, while sophomore Amy Bilquist<\/strong> captured the 100 (53.58) and 200 backstroke (1:57.73), and junior Noemie Thomas<\/strong> claimed the 100 (53.39) and 200 butterfly (1:59.44). Bilquist remained undefeated in the 100 and 200 backstroke in dual-meet competition this season, which also is true for Thomas in both butterfly races and Weitzeil in the 50 free.<\/p>\n

The Golden Bears picked up one victory each from senior Marina Garcia<\/strong> in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.33), senior Celina Li<\/strong> in the 200 individual medley (2:01.88) and sophomore Phoebe<\/strong> LaMay<\/strong> on the 3-meter springboard (277.2 points).<\/p>\n

Cal won four of the first eight races, then took seven of the last eight events, including a 1-2-3 finish by Weitzeil, senior Kristen Vredeveld<\/strong> (50.24) and senior Farida Osman<\/strong> (50.44) in the 100 free.<\/p>\n

Bilquist, Weitzeil, Thomas and Osman won the 200 medley relay (1:38.17).<\/p>\n

Arizona freshman Hannah Cox<\/strong> outdueled California’s Katie McLaughlin<\/strong> to win the 200 free by five-hundredths of a second, touching in 1:49.43. The freshman later dominated the 500 free, winning by a body length with 4:52.78.<\/p>\n

Senior diver Sally Hackett<\/strong> won the 1-meter with a score of 295.80. She later placed second in the 3-meter with 263.70. Freshman Kennedy Lohman<\/strong> took first in the 100 breast, her best event, with 1:03.49. Junior Tjasa Oder<\/strong> won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:04.42. Annie Ochitwa<\/strong> (54.85) and Taylor Garcia<\/strong> (55.14) finished behind Bilquist in a battle NCAA qualifiers in the event.<\/p>\n

In the men’s meet, No. 1 Cal won 161-113.<\/p>\n

The team of Ryan Murphy, Connor Hoppe, Justin Lynch<\/strong> and Pawel Sendyk<\/strong> stopped the clock in 1:27.67 to win the 200-yard medley relay and beat teammates Mike Thomas, Carson Sand, Matthew Josa<\/strong> and Michael Jensen<\/strong>, who finished second.<\/p>\n

Ryan Kao<\/strong> won the 1,000 free in 9:23.76 is a season-best for the junior. Josa won the 100 backstroke (48.97).<\/p>\n

Sophomore Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> picked up his first win of the day with a time of 1:45.67 in the 200 butterfly and returned to the pool near the end of the meet to swim the 200 IM in a top time of 1:47.67.<\/p>\n

Arizona junior Nick Thorne<\/strong> earned a second-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.60, out-touching Cal’s Jack Xie<\/strong> by seven-hundredths of a second.<\/p>\n

Stanford tops Arizona State<\/h3>\n

Stanford freshman Katie Drabot<\/strong>, sophomore Ella Eastin<\/strong>, junior Lindsey Engel<\/strong> and junior Ally Howe<\/strong> each won multiples races as Stanford women’s swimming & diving earned a 178-113 win over Arizona State on Friday afternoon in the rain as the Cardinal remained undefeated.<\/p>\n

Stanford won every event at the meet, and Drabot bookended the individual events with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle and the top time in the 200 individual medley. Her collegiate-best finish of 9:45.38 marked her second career victory in the 1,000 free, and she was the first to touch the wall as an exhibition swimmer in the IM with a time of 2:00.53.<\/p>\n

Howe swept the 100 and 200 butterfly. She earned her first victory with a finish of 1:59.70 in the 200, and then had the top time in the 100 at 54.84.<\/p>\n

Katie Ledecky<\/strong> won the 200 freestyle (1:44.55).<\/p>\n

In the men’s meet, No. 8 Stanford opened Pac-12 Conference play with a 159-141 win against Arizona State on Friday at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n

Stanford’s 200-yard medley relay team of Ryan Dudzinski, Matt Anderson, Andrew Liang<\/strong> and Sam Perry<\/strong> (1:28.34) led off the meet with a tie for first place. In the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Grant Shoults (<\/strong>1:37.37) was first.<\/p>\n

The Arizona State 200 medley relay \u2013 Andrew Porter, Christian Lorenz, Tadas Duskinas<\/strong> and Richard Bohus<\/strong> \u2014 tied Stanford, while Bohus, Patrick Park<\/strong>, Duskinas and Cameron Craig<\/strong> captured a victory in the 400-free relay.<\/p>\n

Washington State defeats Oregon State<\/h3>\n

The Washington State swim team opened 2017 with a convincing 170-87 victory over Oregon State<\/p>\n

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead, taking the top two spots in the 400 medley relay. WSU’s team of Hannah Bruggman, Angela Mavrantza, Anna Brolin<\/strong> and Haley Rose<\/strong> Love took first with a time of 3:50.08.<\/p>\n

Addisynn Bursch<\/strong> added first-place finishes in the 50 free (24.41), 100 free (51.95) and in the 200 IM (2:03.75). Junior Rachel Thompson<\/strong> finished first the 200 free in 1:53.51. Senior Jessica Marston<\/strong> took home her first win of the season with a 10:40.47 in the 1,000 free. Mavrantza, a freshman, notched her team-leading fifth and sixth wins \u2014 in the 100 breast (1:04.61) and the 200 breast (2:20.11).<\/p>\n

Oregon State’s Felecia Anderson<\/strong> took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.92 and finished second in the 200-yard with a touch of 2:04.41.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
