NANCY, France, March 12. THE year might be just three months old, but Fred Bousquet is the top sprinter in the world so far after a strong performance at the French International Meet that started today. The meet is taking place in a long course meter format.<\/p>\n
Bousquet clocked a blazing time of 21.95 in the men's 50 free to become the first man sub-22 seconds this year. Cesar Cielo (22.13) and Ashley Callus (22.22) own the second and third best times of the year thus far. David Maitre finished second in 22.73, while Jeremy Stravius placed third in 22.81.<\/p>\n
Hugues Duboscq topped the men's 100 breast in 1:01.21, which moved him to third fastest in the world this year behind Yuta Suenage (1:01.08) and Kosuke Kitajima (1:01.11). Spain's Melquiades Caraballo Alvarez took second in 1:02.44. Clement Gudefin finished third in 1:04.58.<\/p>\n
Ophelie-Cyrielle Etienne opened the meet with a winning time of 4:13.18 in the women's 400 free, while Spain's Mireia Belmonte Garcia took second in 4:15.87. Ophelia Aspord snagged third in 4:20.01. Yannick Agnel followed with a time of 3:52.68 in the men's 400 free, while Antton Haraboure placed second in 3:57.57. William Strohmeyer took third in 4:01.17. <\/p>\n
Coralie Balmy checked in with a 1:10.86 for the women's 100 breast title, while Sophie De Ronchi wound up second in 1:11.28. Fanny Babou completed the top three in 1:11.61.<\/p>\n
The Netherlands' Inge Dekker captured the women's 100 fly title in 59.32, while Camille Muffatt took second in 1:00.37. De Ronchi earned her second podium of the night with a 1:00.48 for third place. Belgium's Francois Heersbrandt won the men's 100 fly in 53.81. Spain's Rafael Munoz Perez (54.71) and France's Romain Sassot (54.94) rounded out the podium.<\/p>\n
Alexianne Castel grabbed the women's 50 back crown in 30.00, while Camille Gheorghiu finished second in 30.44. Spain's Ane Saseta Estebanez took third in 30.53.
