The win marked the first for the Hoosiers over the Wolverines in a dual meet since the 1998-99 season.<\/p>\n<p>On the women&#8217;s side, the No. 6 Wolverines beat the No. 13 Hoosiers, 211-87.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s meet, The Indiana men got the meet off to a great start, winning the 200 medley relay. The Hoosier team of <strong>Bob Glover, Ian Finnerty, Vini Lanza<\/strong> and <strong>Ali Khalafalla<\/strong> touched the wall in a time of 1:27.13.<\/p>\n<p>In a showdown of two of the top sprinters in the country, Khalafalla beat Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Paul Powers<\/strong>, touching the wall first with a time of 19.87.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana\u2019s <strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong> touched the wall first in the men&#8217;s 200 freestyle with a NCAA \u2018B\u2019 cut time of 1:36.43. In the 100 backstroke, Glover won it for the Hoosier men with a NCAA \u2018B\u2019 cut time of 48.11.<\/p>\n<p>Finnerty won the 100 breaststroke with a NCAA \u2018B\u2019 cut time of 54.01. Pieroni also had a nice swim in the event, coming in fourth with a NCAA \u2018B\u2019\u2019 cut mark of 54.79.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s meet, Michigan sophomore <strong>Siobh\u00e1n Haughey<\/strong> won three events, while sophomore <strong>Yirong Bi,<\/strong> junior <strong>Clara Smiddy<\/strong> and freshman <strong>Vanessa Krause<\/strong> each won two. The Wolverines went 1-2-3 in five events.<\/p>\n<p>Bi dominated the distance events and looked particularly strong in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching first by nearly 15 seconds (9:43.77) over teammate<strong> G Ryan<\/strong>, who was second (9:58.01). The 500-yard freestyle later in the meet was also a 102 with Bi (4:44.28), and Ryan (4:48.28).<\/p>\n<p>Both the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes were taken by Smiddy (54.50, 1:56.55), who was followed in both events by junior <strong>Gabby DeLoof<\/strong> (54.72, 1:57.61).<\/p>\n<p>Haughey won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.58) and 200-yard IM (2:00.40), and led a dominant 1-2-3-4 finish in the 100-yard freestyle (48.80). She was followed in that race by <strong>Catie DeLoof<\/strong> (49.58), who also won the 50-yard freestyle (22.78).<\/p>\n<p>Krause, the only Indiana native on the roster (Chesterton), had two real close wins over Indiana&#8217;s <strong>Gia Dalesandro<\/strong> in the butterfly events. She out-touched Dalesandro by .06 seconds to win the 100-yard butterfly (53.22) and got her by nearly half-a-second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.04).<\/p>\n<p>Indiana\u2019s <strong>Lilly King<\/strong> won the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in a NCAA B cut time of 1:01.08. The Olympic gold medalist won the 200 breast with a NCAA B cut time of 2:12.45.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana was dominant in the men&#8217;s 3-meter dive, sweeping the top-3 spots with NCAA qualifying scores. <strong>Michael Hixon<\/strong> led the way with a total of 443.33, while <strong>James Conno<\/strong>r took second place with a score of 411.38. <strong>Cody Coldren<\/strong> took third for the Hoosiers with a total of 380.03.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s 1-meter dive, <strong>Jessica Parratto<\/strong> won the event with a NCAA qualifying score of 304.28. Parratto made it a clean sweep later in the 3-meter dive, winning with a NCAA qualifying total of 332.70.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the full results <a href=\"http:\/\/iuhoosiers.com\/documents\/2017\/1\/13\/\/IU_Michigan_Results.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Wisconsin falls to USC<\/h3>\n<p>Check out a full recap of this meet on the Pac-12 page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pac-12-weekly-recap-usc-sweeps-wisconsin\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Northwestern\u2019s Wilmovsky sets record<\/h3>\n<p>Senior <strong>Jordan Wilimovsky<\/strong>, swimming in the final home meet of his career, and freshman <strong>Valerie Gruest<\/strong> Slowing each won the 1,650 and 500 freestyle events in a dual against Notre Dame.<\/p>\n<p>Wilimovsky capped the last meet in his home pool by swimming a 4:18.99 in the 500 free to break the pool record and qualify for the NCAA Championships with a &#8216;B&#8217; cut time. The senior and U.S. Olympian opened the day with another &#8216;B&#8217; cut time in the 1,650 when he finished first in 14:57.64.<\/p>\n<p>The Northwestern men and women lost to the Fighting Irish 182-118.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>Olivia Rosendahl<\/strong> paced the divers Saturday with a pair of first-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. Rosendahl won the women&#8217;s 3-meter with a 304.50, while winning\u00a0 the women&#8217;s 1-meter with a 287.95.<\/p>\n<h3>Purdue sweeps Michigan State<\/h3>\n<p>The Purdue improved to 6-1 in duals this season with a 203-92 victory over Michigan State. The Purdue men won all 16 events and moved to 3-2 in duals this season with a 179-111 win. The women&#8217;s 50 freestyle was the only event the Boilermakers did not win Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marat Amaltdinov<\/strong> (breaststroke sweep), <strong>Steele Johnson<\/strong> (diving sweep) and <strong>Erik Juliusson<\/strong> (100 IM, 200 free) and <strong>Nick McDowell<\/strong> (distance free sweep) all won a pair of events for the Purdue men. <strong>Cady Farlow<\/strong> (breaststroke sweep) and <strong>Kaersten Meitz<\/strong> (200 and 500 free) led the way with a pair of victories for the Purdue women.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan State\u2019s <strong>Racheal Bukowski<\/strong> won the 50 freestyle (23.49).<\/p>\n<h3>Penn State edges Yale<\/h3>\n<p>The Penn State men\u2019s swimming &amp; diving team edged Yale in a dual meet that went down to the final race, 185-168, Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The two teams were tied 93-93 after Friday evening. After winning the 400 IM, Yale (8-1) trailed Penn State (2-3) by eight points going into the final 400 freestyle relay. <strong>JP Cervone and<\/strong> <strong>Bob Bantley<\/strong> led the race off, and <strong>Matt Stasiunas<\/strong> swam the third leg despite swimming in and placing fifth in the 400 IM the race before. The trio kept Penn State at the front, allowing <strong>Shane Ryan<\/strong> to close the race and the meet out, as he touched first in 2:59.46.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan also set his second pool record of the week, winning the 100 butterfly in an NCAA B-cut time of 47.24 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Check out full results <a href=\"http:\/\/grfx.cstv.com\/photos\/schools\/psu\/sports\/m-swim\/auto_pdf\/2016-17\/box_score\/stats_20170114aab.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A 1-2-3 finish in the 500 freestyle highlighted the Penn State women\u2019s swimming &amp; diving team\u2019s final day of competition against Rutgers and Yale Saturday. The Nittany Lions defeated Rutgers 204-148, but fell to Yale, 215-137.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Casey Francis<\/strong> led the podium sweep in the 500 free in 4:51.81 and was followed by <strong>Ally McHugh<\/strong> in 4:54.96 and <strong>Katelyn Sowinski<\/strong> in 4:56.22. McHugh totaled three individual podium finishes on the day, winning the 400 IM in a B-cut of 4:18.69, while Francis trailed in third (4:25.03), and placing third herself in the 200 backstroke in (2:02.10).<\/p>\n<p>Full women&#8217;s results <a href=\"http:\/\/grfx.cstv.com\/photos\/schools\/psu\/sports\/m-swim\/auto_pdf\/2016-17\/box_score\/stats_20170114aab.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Minnesota tops Denver<\/h3>\n<p>Minnesota set several pool records as they secured dual meet victories against Denver and Wyoming at El Pomar Natatorium. The Gopher men beat host Denver 193-136, and beat Wyoming 219.5-95.5. Minnesota\u2019s women captured a 179-136 win against the Hilltoppers and a 225-90 win against the Cowgirls.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daryl Turner<\/strong> set an individual pool record by winning the 100 butterfly in 47.51. (He also had a pool record in the 100 back on Friday.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kierra Smith<\/strong> set an El Pomar record by winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.22, by a 2.62-second margin and under the NCAA \u2018B\u2019 standard. She swept the breaststroke events.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Danielle Nack<\/strong>, who set a pool record in the 200 butterfly Friday, completed the butterfly sweep with a 54.88 to win the 100 on Saturday.<\/p>\n<h3>Nebraska duo sets records<\/h3>\n<p>Senior captains <strong>Anna Filipcic<\/strong> and <strong>Erin Oeltjen<\/strong> set two records during the Huskers 197-98 win over the UNO Mavericks.<\/p>\n<p>Filipcic set the Nebraska school record in the one-meter dive with a score of 346.88, while Oeltjen set the Devaney pool record in an exhibition race in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.20.<\/p>\n<h3>Iowa tops Illinois<\/h3>\n<p>The Iowa women split a pair of duals, posting a Big Ten Conference victory over Illinois (213-87) and falling to the Fighting Irish, 180-117. The UI men fell to 21st-ranked Notre Dame, 191-106.<\/p>\n<p>Senior <strong>Emma Sougstad<\/strong> produced two of Iowa&#8217;s victories by swimming to event titles in the 100 breast (1:02.09) and 200 IM (2:03.46).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Tenney<\/strong> swam to a pair of runner-up finishes in the distance free events, placing second in both the 500 free (4:32.82) and 1,000 free (9:30.51).<\/p>\n<p>Fighting Illini senior <strong>Amelia Schilling<\/strong> took first in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.13 as Illinois lost to Notre Dame and the Hawkeyes.<\/p>\n<h3>Illinois tops Iowa State<\/h3>\n<p>The Illinois swimming and diving team defeated Iowa State on Saturday, 186-114. With the win, the Fighting Illini improve to 7-4 on the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Orange and Blue placed first in 13 of the 16 races on the day, starting off strong by winning the first three, and closing out the meet by winning 10 of the last 11. Junior <strong>Samantha Stratford<\/strong> won three individual events (200 fly, 200 breast and 200 IM), while seniors <strong>Gabbie Stecker<\/strong> (200 free, 500 free) and <strong>Audrey Rodawig<\/strong> (50 free, 100 free) won two each.<\/p>\n<p>Check out full results <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fightingillini.com\/documents\/2017\/1\/14\/\/illinois_vs_iowa_state_results.pdf?id=19437\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Ohio State sets records at Cinci<\/h3>\n<p>A day after setting six pool records at Keating Aquatic Center, Buckeye swimmers set five more during Saturday\u2019s competition to win the Cincinnati invite.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 400 freestyle relay team that posted a time of 3:23.80, <strong>Lindsey Clary, Meg Bailey, Liz<\/strong> <strong>Li<\/strong> and <strong>Zulal Zeren<\/strong> each set pool records today. Clary won the first individual event of the day, the 1000 freestyle, with a time of 9:57.50, the only swimmer to go sub-10:00 in that event. Right after her was Bailey, who placed first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.61. Li came out on top in the 50 freestyle, a familiar outcome for her, with a record-setting time of 22.76. Lastly Zeren swept the backstroke events with a win in the 200 yard variety today; her time of 2:00.80 is the fastest the pool has ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s meet, both relays on Saturday reached pool records; the meet-opening 400 medley relay had a time of 3:19.53, besting the previous pool record by almost three seconds.
