No. 4 Stanford started 2017 with a 182-82 win against Pacific on Friday morning at Avery Aquatic Center in an off-distance meet.<\/p>\n

The Cardinal team of Tom Kremer, Matt Anderson, Andrew Liang<\/strong> and Sam Perry<\/strong> (3:17.32) opened the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay.<\/p>\n

True Sweetser<\/strong> (5:23.47) dominated the 600-yard freestyle, beating fellow freshman Will Macmillan<\/strong> (5:39.29) by nearly 16 seconds.<\/p>\n

Liam Egan<\/strong> (1:13.87) finished second in the 150-yard freestyle, while Jimmy Yoder<\/strong> (1:14.63) place third.<\/p>\n

UCLA knocks off Kansas, Boise State<\/h3>\n

In the first meet of the New Year, the UCLA swimming and diving teams dominated Kansas and Boise State on Friday. The Bruins beat the Jayhawks 202-92, while defeating the Broncos 164-130.<\/p>\n

The Bruins kicked things off with a win in the 200 medley relay.\u00a0 Linnea Mack, Sarah Kaunitz, Katie Grover<\/strong> and Caroline McTaggart<\/strong> posted the top time of 1:42.12.<\/p>\n

The Bruins went 1-2 in the 1,000 Free, led by Margaux Verger Gourson<\/strong> with a new meet record against Boise State (10:09.44).\u00a0 Sandra Soe<\/strong> checked in at second with a 10:12.50.<\/p>\n

Madison White<\/strong> won the 100 backstroke with a 54.78.\u00a0 She won the 200 backstroke in 1:58.90, an NCAA ‘B’ cut.<\/p>\n

Arizona sweeps invite<\/h3>\n

Arizona women’s swimming and diving opened up the New Year with a sweep of its first home meet of the season. The Cats dominated Northern Arizona (178-118), Oregon State (213-77) and New Mexico State (193-104) to improve to 6-2.<\/p>\n

Arizona commanded the relay events at the quad-meet, winning both the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. The A team of sophomore Katrina Konopka<\/strong>, freshman Kennedy Lohman<\/strong>, sophomore Taylor<\/strong> Garcia<\/strong> and junior Laura Kurki<\/strong> took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:42.27.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Sarah Shimomura<\/strong> had a stand-out performance in the quad-meet, being only swimmer to have more than one victory. She cruised through the 500 free to win with a time of 4:59.95, four and a half seconds ahead of the next swimmer. The sophomore also won the 200 free by more than two seconds earlier in the meet, finishing in 1:50.21. Shimomura then had an impressive performance in the 50 free to take third with 23.91.<\/p>\n

Oregon State senior Sophie MacEwan<\/strong> picked up a first place finish against NAU and NMSU in the 50-yard freestyle with a touch at 24.29. T<\/p>\n

Arizona State cruises past Oregon State<\/h3>\n

The Arizona State women cruised to a 164-89 victory over Oregon State.<\/p>\n

ASU started and finished strong with a pair of 1-2 touches in the 200 medley and 400 free relays and touched first in 11 of 12 individual events.<\/p>\n

The Devils spread the wealth with nine different swimmers posting top finishes, Chloe Isleta<\/strong> (200 fly, 200 back) and Marlies Ross<\/strong> (200 breast, 400 IM) the only two to touch first in multiple events.<\/p>\n

Notably, Isleta finished nearly 22 seconds ahead of sister and Oregon State senior Czsarina Isleta<\/strong>, in the 400 IM, in one of the most anticipated matchups of the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Utah tops Denver, falls to Harvard<\/h3>\n

The University of Utah men’s and women’s\u00a0swimming and diving teams\u00a0defeated Denver. The men also competed against visiting Harvard but fell.<\/p>\n

In the 100 breast, Stina Colleou<\/strong> claimed the top spot (1:04.54) with McKenna Gassaway<\/strong> placed second (1:04.69) in the event. Jordan Anderson<\/strong> took first in the 200 fly touching in at 2:05.34 while Genevieve Robertson was first in the 200 breast (2:19.42).\u00a0Julienne Tadena touched in first in the 100 IM coming away with a time of 57.80. She also took second in the 100 free (52.65).<\/p>\n

Over on the\u00a0men’s side,\u00a0Paul Unger<\/strong> started the day by taking first in the 100 back touching in at 49.14. Another first place finish was put up by freshman Rahiti De Vos<\/strong> in the 500 free. He came away with a time of 4:35.34.<\/p>\n

In diving, Utah’s Lauren Hall<\/strong> took first on the 3-meter tallying a score of 265.95 against Harvard on Tuesday. She also took second on the 3-meter, 243.75.<\/p>\n

On 1-meter, Josiah Purss<\/strong> claimed the top spot coming out with a total score of 310.35. Daniel Theriault<\/strong> took second on the three-meter event with a score of 292.65.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
