OXFORD, Ohio, February 24. THE University of Toledo swimming and diving team swept the two relays and sits in first place following day one action at the MAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, taking place at the Nixon Aquatic Center at Miami University.<\/p>\n
The Toledo team of senior Ashley Cusack, sophomore Laura Lindsay, junior Amanda Thompson and senior Katie White hit the wall in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:40.20. The mark is an NCAA “B” qualifying time and just .05 off the school record set last year. The time was also nearly three seconds faster than their best mark of the season, which came against Ohio State on Jan. 9 (1:43.12).<\/p>\n
In the 800 freestyle relay, the Rockets set another NCAA “B” time with their mark of 7:14.53, which is also a school record. The team, comprised of junior Laura Heckroth, freshman Carly Harter, junior Kelsey Atchison and junior Jacy Dyer surged forward in the final 100 yards to record the victory. They broke the school record of 7:16.95, set at last year’s MAC Championships.<\/p>\n
The two relay victories – the lone events of the day – resulted in 80 points for Toledo. Ohio is second with 68 points and Miami is third with 60 points.<\/p>\n
Thursday’s action will include prelims in the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free in the first session. The second session will feature the finals in those three events as well as the one meter diving finals and 200 free relay finals.<\/p>\n
