BUDAPEST, Hungary, February 25. THE USA Men's Senior National Team fell to Canada 6-5 in the second match of the Volvo Cup today in Hungary. After defeating Australia 9-4 earlier in the day Team USA came up short against the Canadians. Team captain Tony Azevedo (Long Beach, CA\/NYAC) and JP MacDonnell (Redwood City, CA\/Sharks) led the way on offense scoring twice while Merrill Moses (Palos Verdes, CA\/NYAC) denied six shots in net.<\/p>\n
Canada got off to the early start in this match posting a 2-1 lead after the first period. In the second frame defense was on display with each team failing to score a goal for a 2-1 Canada advantage at halftime. In the third period the United States battled back outscoring Canada 3-2 to tie the game up at 4-4 going into the fourth quarter. In the last quarter Canada proved to be one goal better and came away with the 6-5 victory.<\/p>\n
The United States went 1\/6 on power plays. "We came out really flat and were not able to recover against a very physical Canadian team," said USA Head Coach Terry Schroeder.<\/p>\n
