﻿{"id":234265,"date":"2016-12-20T11:28:44","date_gmt":"2016-12-20T18:28:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=234265"},"modified":"2016-12-20T14:14:23","modified_gmt":"2016-12-20T21:14:23","slug":"georgia-tech-takes-down-cincinnati-and-florida-atlantic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/georgia-tech-takes-down-cincinnati-and-florida-atlantic\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgia Tech Takes Down Cincinnati and Florida Atlantic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Georgia Tech swimming team recorded a clean sweep <span data-term=\"goog_34451100\">on Monday<\/span> night, as both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams defeated both Cincinnati and Florida Atlantic in double-dual meet action at the Norris Aquatic Center in Naples, Fla.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s team defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats 116-89 and trounced FAU 169.5-35.5, while the men\u2019s squad beat the Bearcats 134-71 and more than doubled the Owls at 168-37.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very happy with the way that we raced today,\u201d stated head coach <strong>Courtney Shealy Hart.<\/strong> \u201cBoth Cincinnati and FAU are good teams and I was happy to see that we were very competitive and raced hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s team raced out to a great start to the double-dual meet taking first and second-place overall in the first race of the night, the 200 medley relay. The team of <strong>Maddie Paschal<\/strong>, <strong>Chiara Ruiu<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Laura Branton<\/strong> and <strong>Megan Hansen<\/strong> touched the wall in first with their time of 1:45.13, finishing just in front of the team of <strong>Sara Gilbert<\/strong>, <strong>Florina Ilie<\/strong>, <strong>Morgan Lyons<\/strong> and <strong>Alex Rieger<\/strong> and their runner-up time of 1:45.29.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Emily Ilgenfritz<\/strong> posted a runner-up finish in the 1000 free with her time of 10:11.79, a new personal best mark and a Tech season best time on the year, while sophomore <strong>Iris Wang<\/strong> picked up a second-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.50.<\/p>\n<p>In the 50 free, <strong>Kaitlin Kitchens<\/strong> earned a first-place finish with her time of 23.84, while Hansen placed third overall with a time of 24.65.<\/p>\n<p>The Yellow Jackets\u2019 dominance continued in the 400 IM, as Ruiu (4:27.40) and <strong>Kristen Hepler<\/strong>(4:28.17) finished 1-2, while <strong>Kira de Bruyn <\/strong>touched the wall in fourth with her time of 4:32.52.<\/p>\n<p>The trio of <strong>Chloe Miller<\/strong> (2:07.62), Branton (2:10.00) and <strong>Tamir Gonen Cohen<\/strong> (2:10.66) finished in third, fourth and fifth places, respectively, in the 200 fly <span data-term=\"goog_34451101\">on Monday<\/span> night, while sprinters Wang (50.82) and Kitchens (52.45) touched the wall in second and third in the 100 free event.<\/p>\n<p>The 200 back event belonged to the Yellow Jackets, as Tech claimed five of the top-seven spots in the race. Rieger recorded the win for the Jackets with her time of 2:02.39, while Paschal placed third with a time of 2:03.57. Gilbert (2:04.89), <strong>Caroline Lee <\/strong>(2:08.26) and de Bruyn (2:10.27) finished in fourth, fifth and seventh overall.<\/p>\n<p>Ilgezfritz tallied her second runner-up finish of the meet in the 500 free with her time of 4:57.03, while fellow Jacket <strong>Lindsay Wallace<\/strong> took fourth overall with her time of 5:12.42.<\/p>\n<p>Tech went 1-2-3 in the 200 breast with Ilie (2:17.48), Ruiu (2:18.64) and Hepler (2:19.89) and then closed the meet out with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay event with Wang, Kitchens, Lyons and Paschal touching the wall in a time of 1:35.38.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just like on the women\u2019s side, the men\u2019s team jumped out to a great start with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay as the team of <strong>Brian Woodbury<\/strong>, <strong>Moises Loschi<\/strong>, <strong>Ben Southern<\/strong> and <strong>Noah Harasz<\/strong>took first-place with a time of 1:30.94, placing almost a full three seconds in front of the runner-up unit of <strong>Robert Borowicz<\/strong>, <strong>Alex Kimpel<\/strong>, <strong>Brad Oberg <\/strong>and <strong>Oskar Zimowski<\/strong> and their time of 1:33.90.<\/p>\n<p>Loschi recorded a runner-up finish in the 1000 free with his time of 9:22.94, finishing ahead of fellow teammates <strong>Brennan Day<\/strong> (9:33.49) and <strong>Colt Williamson<\/strong> (9:46.22) who placed in fourth and fifth overall, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>Rodrigo Quadros Correia<\/strong> earned a win in the 200 free event with his top time of 1:38.33, while freshman <strong>Clay Hering<\/strong> touched the wall in second overall with his time of 1:42.62.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Aidan Pastel picked up a first-place finish the Jackets in the 50 free with a time of 21.40, finishing in front of fellow teammate Zimowski (21.58) and <strong>Stefan Kranenburg <\/strong>(21.67) who touched the wall in third and fifth overall, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>A trio of freshmen registered top-five finishes in the 400 IM, as Day recorded the win with his time of 4:03.55, while <strong>Tim Slanschek<\/strong> placed third at 4:06.78 and <strong>Joonas Koski<\/strong> finished fourth with a time of 4:07.73.<\/p>\n<p>Southern led a swarm of Yellow Jackets in the 200 fly, as the co-captain took first-place overall with a time of 1:50.31 and paced both Slanschek (1:50.98) and Hering (1:52.05) who placed second and third for the race.<\/p>\n<p>Tech\u2019s Harasz picked up yet another win for the Yellow Jackets in the 100 free with a time of 45.66, while Borowicz (1:50.24), Woodbury (1:50.80) and Oberg (1:51.51) went 1-2-3 in the 200 back event on the night.<\/p>\n<p>In the 500 free, Correia (4:35.73) and Williamson (4:44.21) touched the wall in second and fourth, respectively. Correia\u2019s time of 4:35.73 was a new career best mark for the co-captain.<\/p>\n<p>Tech closed the meet out with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay, as the team of Correia, Harasz, Zimowski and Kranenburg touched the wall in a time of 1:23.67.<\/p>\n<p>The Yellow Jackets will return to action after the holiday break when they will take on both Virginia Tech and Kentucky in double-dual meet action on <span data-term=\"goog_34451102\">Jan. 6-7<\/span> in Blacksburg, Va.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tech Tidbits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*The Yellow Jackets had at least one swimmer place in the top-three in every single race for the meet.<\/p>\n<p>*Georgia Tech claimed 14 first-place wins out of the 22 events.<\/p>\n<p>*Freshman <strong>Emily Ilgenfritz<\/strong> set a new personal-best and Tech season-best time of 10:11.79 in the 1000 free.<\/p>\n<p>*Ilgenfritz\u2019 time of 10:11.79 also ranks fourth all time in school history in the 1000 free.<\/p>\n<p>*Sophomore <strong>Rodrigo
