NASHVILLE, Tennessee, February 15. MONTGOMERY Bell Academy and The Baylor School walked away with state titles at the Tennessee High School State Championships this weekend. The Montgomery Bell Academy boys tallied 357 points for first, followed by The McCallie School (249) and The Baylor School (202). On the girls’ side, The Baylor School won with 422 points while Harpeth Hall took second (206.5) and Franklin placed third (189.5).<\/p>\n
Boys Results
\nMontgomery Bell Academy won all three relays. Jack Murfee, Chase Lovelace, Maclin Davis, and Jarvis Werkhaven set a state record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:30.96. The previous record (1:31.52) was set last year by The Baylor School’s R. Shirey, S. Rowe, G. Roop, and J. Sosna. Werkhaven also won the 200 IM (1:52.95).<\/p>\n
Senior Sean Ryan (The McCallie School) was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:37.85) and 500 freestyles. He set a state record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:21.14. The previous record (4:21.94) was set in 2005 by Brooks Stovall.<\/p>\n
Davis, Murfee, Patrick Killian, and Werkhaven won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:22.74.<\/p>\n
Notre Dame’s Troy Tillman had individual wins in the 50 (20.82) and 100 (45.46) freestyles.<\/p>\n
James Dail of Bearden won the diving competition with a score of 467.55, followed by Zachary Woods of St. Georges (452.10) and Tony Restaino of The McCallie School (387.30).<\/p>\n
Nathan Stinson, Andrew Dobbs, Tate Ramsden, and Killian closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:09.54).<\/p>\n
Girls Results
\nThe Baylor School won all three relays. Arden Pitman, Ashley Vance, Anna Gwarjanski, and Kristen Vredeveld won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.92. Pitman also won the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.65.
\nFreshman Kristen Vredeveld had individual wins in the 50 (22.97) and 100 freestyles. She set a state record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.08. The previous record (50.20) was set by Stephanie L. Napier (The Baylor School) in 2005.<\/p>\n
Emma Michaels (Baylor) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.31. She teamed up with Vredeveld, Vance, and Pitman for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.06).<\/p>\n
Vance, a Swimming World four-star recruit, was a dual event winner in the 200 IM and the 100 breatstroke (1:02.20). She set a state record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.90. The previous record (2:01.59) was set by Meredith Ayres (The Webb School) in 2006.
\nTop finishers in the diving competition include Julianne Wilson of The Girls Preparatory (497.40), Lisa Bogosian of Bearden (442.80), and Allison Stark of Harpeth Hall (380.15).<\/p>\n
Gwarjanski, Savannah Napier, Bria Deveauz, and Michaels closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:31.13).<\/p>\n
