SYDNEY, Australia, February 13. THE second night of long course meter swimming at the NSW Open Championships featured some even faster competition than the first night.<\/p>\n
Emily Seebohm put on a show in the women's 100 back. She blazed to a 59.25 for the win. The time is off her Australian record of 58.88 and the world record of 58.12 set by Gemma Spofforth. But, for the sake of some context, Seebohm's time is faster than Natalie Coughlin's former world record of 59.44 set before the techsuit era of the past two years. Belinda Hocking took second in 1:00.47, while Emily Thomas finished third in 1:01.66.<\/p>\n
Tae Hwan Park posted a swift 1:46.98 to win the men's 200 free, not too far off his Asian record of 1:44.85 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Nicholas Ffrost posted a second-place 1:49.00, while Kenrick Monk took third in 1:49.80. Therese Alshammar won the women's 50 free in 24.98, just a second off her Swedish record of 23.88 set at the 2009 World Championships. Sally Foster took second in 25.47, while Alice Mills completed the podium in 25.70.<\/p>\n
Bronte Barratt began the evening with a victory in the women's 400 free. She clocked a time of 4:09.28, while Kylie Palmer placed second in 4:10.43. Alexa Komarnycky picked up third in 4:11.32. Geoff Huegill followed in the men's 50 fly with a winning time of 23.83. Andrew Lauterstein wound up second in 23.83, while Chris Wright took third in 24.52.<\/p>\n
Felicity Galvez overtook Alshammar, 58.73 to 58.92, in the women's 100 fly. Alshammar led at the turn, 27.15 to 27.53. Stephanie Rice placed third in 59.39. Alicia Coutts also broke 1:00 with a fourth-place 59.50. Daniel Arnamnart won the men's 200 back in 2:01.75, while Bradley Lewis turned in a second-place 2:02.32. Robert Hurley completed the top three in 2:02.46.<\/p>\n
Brenton Rickard claimed the men's 100 breast title in 1:02.01, while Craig Calder finished second in 1:02.67. Glenn Snyders wound up third in 1:03.09. Leisel Jones cruised to victory in the women's 200 breast with a 2:26.14. Sarah Katsoulis touched a distant second in 2:29.27, while Chelsea Carpenter earned third in 2:32.47. Leith Brodie snagged the men's 200 IM crown in 2:03.20. Thomas Fraser-Holmes finished second in 2:04.47, while Patrick Murphy placed third in 2:04.54.<\/p>\n
In relay action, the team of Belinda Parslow, Belinda Bennett, Talia Goddard and Ellese Zalewski won the women's 800 free relay in 8:23.36. The men's team of Jarrod Killey, Samuel Parker, Heath Winning and Fraser-Holmes claimed the men's 800 free relay in 7:35.02.<\/p>\n
