THE Bentley University men&#39;s swimming &#038; diving team claimed its first ever Northeast-10 Championship, while the Southern Connecticut State University women&#39;s team picked up its seventh straight championship at Southern Connecticut&#39;s Hutchinson Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#39;s side, Bentley collected 818.5 total points to end Southern Connecticut&#39;s six year run as team champion as the Owls finished second with 743 points for a second place showing. The College of Saint Rose earned a third place finish after picking up 526.5 and was followed by Adelphi University with 457 points. Le Moyne College (420) finished fifth, while Saint Michael&#39;s College (405) and Pace University (131) round out the field at sixth and seventh respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Junior Jon Andrews (Southbury, Conn.) led the way for the Falcons as he swept the one-meter and three-meter diving events for the second straight year to earn Diver of the Meet honors. Andrews scored 406.20 points in the one-meter event and 414.35 points in the three-meter diving event. Saint Rose sophomore Vadim Yafayev (Albany, N.Y.) was selected the Swimmer of the Meet after breaking two NE-10 meet records as he finished first in the 200-yard IM (1:53.10) and the 400-yard IM (4:02.04).<\/p>\n<p>Southern Connecticut&#39;s Austin Mizzell (Bristol, Conn.) took first place honors in the 200-yard breaststroke event. He broke the NE-10 meet record after finishing first in the preliminary session with a time of 2:02.94 and would later win the event in the finals with a time of 2:04.33. He also won the 100-yard breaststroke (57.53) and was part of four-winning relay teams for the Owls (400-Freestyle \u2013 3:14.40, 800-Freestyle \u2013 6:53.19, 200-Medley \u2013 1:36.41 and the 400 \u2013 Medley \u2013 3:29.62).<\/p>\n<p>On the women&#39;s side, Southern Connecticut took home their seventh straight championship after collecting 988.50 team points. Saint Rose followed with 732.5 points for a second place showing earning. They were followed by Le Moyne (524), Bentley (483), Pace (387), Assumption College (306), Saint Michael&#39;s (271) and Adelphi (164).<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Amanda Thomas (Oakville, Conn.) earned Swimmer of the Meet as she helped lead the Owls with three individual titles and was part of four winning relay teams. She re-wrote the NE-10 record book with a record time of 2:04.89 in the 200-yard IM and in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.12. Thomas also finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (57.29). Teammate Cody Hall (Parker, Colo.) also earned first place showings in three events, including the 400 IM (4:24.67), 200-yard Freestyle (1:53.74) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.16.). Bentley junior Anne Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass.) was a multiple winner as she took first-place honors in the 100-yard Butterfly (58.84) and the 200-yard Butterfly (2:07.97).<\/p>\n<p>Southern Connecticut&#39;s sophomore Amanda Burden (Orange, Conn.) earned Diver of the Meet honors for the second straight year as she swept the one-meter and three-meter diving events. She scored a NE-10 meet record 400.60 points in the one-meter event and then took first in the three-meter with a score of 396.90.<\/p>\n<p>With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC.
