OLYMPIANS David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ind.) lead the men's 10-meter and women's 3-meter competition after Friday's semifinals at the USA Diving Winter National Championships and World Cup trials. Scores will carry over into Sunday's finals. <\/p>\n
Just 7.4 points separate first and third in the women's 3-meter contest, setting up a battle for the national title and the two World Cup spots up for grabs. Loukas scored a personal best 371.45 points to head into the finals with a narrow lead over Abby Johnston (Upper Arlington, Ohio), who finished second with 366.90 points, also a personal best. 2008 Olympian Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) is right behind with 364.05 points. Johnston and Bryant won the 3-meter titles at the two national championships in 2009.<\/p>\n
Boudia and Nick McCrory (Chapel Hill, N.C.) dominated the men's 10-meter contest. Boudia led the field with 511.65 points, highlighted by four 10s on his most difficult dive – a front 4 \u00bd tuck with a degree of difficulty of 3.7 McCrory sits in second place with 493.80 points. He earned a 10 on his armstand double back with 1 \u00bd twists. Harrison Jones (Spring, Texas) is third at 440.65.<\/p>\n
The cumulative scores from the semifinals and finals will determine both the national champion and rosters for the 2010 FINA World Cup and AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix teams. The top two finishers who also meet the degree of difficulty requirements will be named to the World Cup team and the top four who meet the DD requirements will make the Grand Prix team.<\/p>\n
The USA Diving Winter National Championships and World Cup trials continue through February 8. Saturday's competition features four finals – men's 3-meter, women's 10-meter, men's 3-meter synchro and women's 10-meter synchro.<\/p>\n
