Women’s 400 Free:<\/h3>\n

Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>of the USA powered to her second gold medal finish in the women’s 400 free, holding off a charging\u00a0Veronika Popova\u00a0<\/strong>throughout the entirety of the race. Smith stopped the clock at a final time of 3:57.78, while Popova of Russia finished second overall with a 3:58.90.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Chihiro Igarashi\u00a0<\/strong>and Hungary’s\u00a0Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>kept pace with each other throughout most of the race as the two battled for the bronze medal. Igarashi had more gas in the tank as she pushed forward to the wall to stop the clock at a final time of 3:59.41 over Hosszu’s 3:59.89.<\/p>\n

Zhang Yuhan\u00a0<\/strong>of China claimed fifth overall with a time of 4:02.61, just ahead of Australia’s\u00a0Ariarne Titmus’\u00a0<\/strong>4:02.70.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands’\u00a0Sharon van Rouwendaal<\/strong> finished seventh overall with a 4:03.69, while Japan’s\u00a0Ayo Takano\u00a0<\/strong>was eighth with a time of 4:05.95.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
