Competition continued with some swift swims at the 2016 Speedo Winter Junior Championships West as 14-year-old\u00a0Regan Smith\u00a0<\/strong>took down the 13-14 National Age Group record in prelims of the women’s 100 fly.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 IM:<\/h3>\n

Regan Barney\u00a0<\/strong>of Longhorn Aquatics topped the competition in prelims of the women’s 400 IM with a qualifying time of 4:14.88.<\/p>\n

BREA Aquatics’\u00a0Mikki Thompson\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the second place seed with a time of 4:15.79, while Scottsdale Aquatics’\u00a0Natalia Jaspeado\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in prelims with a time of 4:16.51.<\/p>\n

Kate Krolikowski<\/strong> of the Aquazots turned in a time of 4:16.59 to quality fourth, ahead of teammate\u00a0Katie Glavinovich’s\u00a0<\/strong>4:17.53.<\/p>\n

TWST’s\u00a0Zoe Gawronska<\/strong> (4:17.63), Sandpipers’\u00a0Reese Hazan\u00a0<\/strong>(4:17.88), and Texas Ford’s\u00a0Gabrielle Kopenski\u00a0<\/strong>(4:18.24) completed the top eight qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 IM:<\/h3>\n

Jeffco Hurricane’s\u00a0Michael Zarian\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the top seed in the men’s 400 IM, stopping the clock at a time of 3:50.21.<\/p>\n

Alex Liang<\/strong> of Palo Alto Stanford picked up a close second seed with a time of 3:50.78, followed closely by North Texas’\u00a0Colter Carman<\/strong> and his time of 3:50.91.<\/p>\n

Lane Four Aquatics’\u00a0Caleb Aman\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a time of 3:51.35 for the fourth place seed, while Alamo Area’s\u00a0Mikey Calvillo\u00a0<\/strong>took fifth with a 3:53.24.<\/p>\n

Sandpipers’\u00a0Mihail Amiorkov\u00a0<\/strong>(3:53.69), Edina’s\u00a0Johnthomas Larson<\/strong> (3:54.68), and La Mirada’s (3:55.12) finished sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Fly:<\/h3>\n

Regan Smith\u00a0<\/strong>of Riptide smoked the competition in prelims of the women’s 100 fly with a qualifying time of 52.22. Smith’s time overturns the National Age Group record of 52.97 set by\u00a0Tristen Ulett<\/strong> earlier in 2016.<\/p>\n

Eva Merrell\u00a0<\/strong>of the Aquazots turned in a 52.64 to return as the top seed, while BREA Aquatics’\u00a0Alexis\u00a0<\/strong>Margett<\/b> finished third in prelims with a 52.38.<\/p>\n

Quicksilver’s\u00a0Lauren Green\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the fourth place seed with a time of 53.41, followed by FAST’s\u00a0Coleen Gillilan’s<\/strong> 53.47.<\/p>\n

Austin Swim Club’s\u00a0Dakota Luther<\/strong> (53.50), SOCAL’s\u00a0Elise Garcia\u00a0<\/strong>(53.68), and Razorback’s\u00a0Taylor Pike<\/strong> (53.70) rounded out the qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Fly:<\/h3>\n

Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> continued to throw down quick times in prelims of the men’s 100 fly with a top showing of 46.69. He was the only swimmer to post a sub-47 second swim of the morning.<\/p>\n

Alvin Jiang<\/strong> of Lakeside Aquatics finished second overall in prelims with a time of 47.68, followed by North Texas’\u00a0Jack LeVant<\/strong> and his time of 47.79.<\/p>\n

Shaine Casas<\/strong>, swimming unattached, picked up the fourth place seed with a time of 48.09, while\u00a0Clayton Bobo\u00a0<\/strong>of Dads Club Swim finished fifth with a time of 48.13.<\/p>\n

Terrapins’\u00a0Andrei Minakov<\/strong> (48.14), Sierra Marlins’\u00a0Bryce Mefford<\/strong> (48.26), and Mission Viejo’s\u00a0Daniel Kim\u00a0<\/strong>(48.27) completed the top eight qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Free:<\/h3>\n

Mission Viejo’s\u00a0Samantha Shelton\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed a first place seed in the women’s 200 free with a top time of 1:46.08.<\/p>\n

Julia Cook\u00a0<\/strong>of Aggie Swim Club turned in a time of 1:46.92 to return as the second place seed, just ahead of Mission Viejo’s\u00a0Ella Ristic<\/strong> (1:47.03).<\/p>\n

Evie Pfeifer<\/strong> of CSP Tideriders took fourth in prelims with a 1:47.32, followed by the Waves Bloomington duo of\u00a0Grace Ariola<\/strong> (1:47.46) and\u00a0Melissa Pish\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.53).<\/p>\n

Mansfield Aquatics’\u00a0Haley Yelle<\/strong> and Austin Swim Club’s\u00a0Dakota Luther<\/strong> took seventh and eighth with times of 1:48.11 and 1:48.15 respectively.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Free:<\/h3>\n

Quick times were posted in prelims of the men’s 200 free prelims as the top four qualifiers finished within .71 seconds of each other.\u00a0Jack LeVant<\/strong> of North Texas posted the fastest time at a 1:36.08, followed by Terrapins’\u00a0Alexie Sancov\u00a0<\/strong>and his time of 1:36.32.<\/p>\n

Lakeside Aquatic’s\u00a0Alexander Zettle\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the third place seed with a 1:36.37, just ahead of Trident Aquatics’\u00a0Patrick Callan’s\u00a0<\/strong>1:36.79.<\/p>\n

Austin Swim Club’s\u00a0Matthew Willenbring\u00a0<\/strong>(1:37.28), Sierra Marlins’\u00a0Bryce Mefford<\/strong> (1:37.50), Irvine Novaquatics’\u00a0Owen Kao<\/strong> (1:37.94), and Pikes Peak’s\u00a0Daniel Carr\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.17) finished fifth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Breast:<\/h3>\n

Zoe Bartel\u00a0<\/strong>of Fort Collins dashed ahead of the competition in prelims of the women’s 100 breaststroke, turning in the only sub-1:01 finish. Bartel finished over a second ahead of the competition to pick up the first place seed with a 1:00.24.<\/p>\n

Palo Alto Stanford’s\u00a0Grace Zhao\u00a0<\/strong>took second overall with a time of 1:01.29, while Crow Canyon’s\u00a0Zoie Hartman\u00a0<\/strong>finished third with a time of 1:01.55.<\/p>\n

Claire Grover<\/strong> of Scottsdale Aquatic Club posted a fourth place qualifying time of 1:01.66, followed by North Bay’s\u00a0Halle Morris’\u00a0<\/strong>1:01.77.<\/p>\n

Davis Aquadarts’\u00a0Halladay Kinsey\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.85), Texas Ford Aquatics’\u00a0Rachel Ramey\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.92), and Buenaventura’s\u00a0Alicia Harrison\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.96) return as sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Breast:<\/h3>\n

MJ Mao\u00a0<\/strong>of Sun-shine Aquatics turned in the top seed time of the men’s 100 yard breaststroke, stopping the clock at a time of 54.51. Mao was joined beneath the 55-second mark by Sandpipers’\u00a0Zane Beckes<\/strong> and his time of 54.98.<\/p>\n

Daniel Roy<\/strong>, swimming unattached, picked up a third place qualifying time of 55.04, while Nitro’s\u00a0Ryan Geheb<\/strong> finished fourth with a time of 55.21.<\/p>\n

Mission Viejo’s\u00a0Trent Pellini\u00a0<\/strong>qualified fifth for finals with a time of 55.24, just ahead of St. Croix’s\u00a0Shane\u00a0Blindman’s\u00a0<\/strong>55.50.<\/p>\n

Elijah Warren\u00a0<\/strong>of Denver Swim Academy and\u00a0Adam Zimmer\u00a0<\/strong>of Missoula Aquatics took seventh and eighth in prelims with times of 55.55 and 55.62 respectively.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Back:<\/h3>\n

Regan Smith\u00a0<\/strong>of Riptide grabbed another top seed in the women’s 100 backstroke, flirting with a new NAG record. Smith posted a qualifying time of 51.70, finishing a slim .08 seconds off\u00a0Alex Walsh’s<\/strong> NAG record of 51.62.<\/p>\n

Aggie Swim Club’s\u00a0Julia Cook\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the second place seed with a time of 52.87, while Waves Bloomington’s\u00a0Grace Ariola\u00a0<\/strong>finished third overall with a 53.04.<\/p>\n

Eva Merrell\u00a0<\/strong>of the Aquazots clocked a 53.33 to return as the fourth place seed, followed by\u00a0Chloe Clark<\/strong> of the Sierra Marlins and her time of 53.46.<\/p>\n

Fort Collins’\u00a0Bayley Stewart<\/strong> (53.71), Fort Collins’\u00a0Zoe Bartel<\/strong> (54.00), and Santa Clara’s\u00a0Nicole Oliva\u00a0<\/strong>(54.05) grabbed the sixth through eighth place seeds.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Back:<\/h3>\n

Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> of Scottsdale Aquatic Club and\u00a0Noah Henry\u00a0<\/strong>of Tigershark Swim Club turned in close qualifying times of 47.02 and 47.15 to return as the first and second place seeds respectively.<\/p>\n

Pikes Peak’s\u00a0Daniel Carr\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in prelims with a time of 47.46, ahead of Sierra Marlins’\u00a0Bryce Mefford<\/strong> and his time of 48.33.<\/p>\n

Nitro’s\u00a0Isaac Gwin\u00a0<\/strong>(48.78),\u00a0Shaine Casas<\/strong> (48.83), Lakeside’s\u00a0Alvin Jiang\u00a0<\/strong>(49.08), and Orinda’s\u00a0Jolen Griffin<\/strong> (49.10) picked up the fifth through eighth place seeds for finals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
