Kopenski blasted up from her seventh place seed time of 4:46.96, shaving a full nine seconds off her prelims time.<\/p>\n<p>La Mirada Armada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ault\u00a0<\/strong>took second overall with a final time of 4:41.88, while\u00a0<strong>Haley Yelle\u00a0<\/strong>of Mansfield Aquatics grabbed third with a time of 4:43.35.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dakota Luther<\/strong> finished fourth overall with a time of 4:44.27, followed closely by Magnolia Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Kaitlynn Sims<\/strong> and her time of 4:44.98.<\/p>\n<p>CSP Tideriders&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Evie Pfeifer<\/strong> slid to sixth after turning in the top time during prelims. Pfeifer concluded the race with a time of 4:45.22.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zoe Gawronska<\/strong> of TWST and\u00a0<strong>Ruby Martin\u00a0<\/strong>of Iowa Flyers were seventh and eighth respectively with times of 4:46.73 and 4:47.56.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 500 Free<\/h3>\n<p>Trident&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Patrick Callan<\/strong> took over the lead at the 400-yard mark and then held off charges from North Texas Nadadores&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Jack LeVant\u00a0<\/strong>and Alamo Area&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zach Yeadon<\/strong> down the stretch.<\/p>\n<p>Callan finished in 4:19.07 to claim the win, while Yeadon&#8217;s strong finish pushed him to second place in a time of 4:19.67. Lakeside&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexander Zettle\u00a0<\/strong>touched third in 4:19.83, just ahead of LeVant (4:19.89).<\/p>\n<p>Scottsdale&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Aaron Apel<\/strong> actually led for the majority of the race, but he fell off around the 350 and ended up fifth in 4:20.41.<\/p>\n<p>Edina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Johnthomas Larson<\/strong> (4:23.58), North Texas Nadadores&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Colter Carman<\/strong> (4:24.67) and Empire KC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Liam Bresette<\/strong> (4:25.66) finished sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>14-year-old\u00a0<strong>Regan Smith<\/strong> took a big lead on the backstroke leg and then held strong as 15-year-old\u00a0<strong>Chloe Clark\u00a0<\/strong>closed in on the back half. Smith, representing Riptide, ended up taking the win in 1:56.69, less than a half-second off\u00a0<strong>Alex Walsh&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>13-14 NAG record of 1:56.20.<\/p>\n<p>Sierra Marlins&#8217; Clark finished second in 1:57.32, well ahead of Fort Collins&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Zoe Bartel<\/strong>, who touched in 1:58.27 to pick up the final spot on the podium.<\/p>\n<p>Aggie&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Julia Cook\u00a0<\/strong>just missed out on a top-three spot, finishing fourth in 1:58.77, and Iowa Flyers&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Ruby Martin<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>took fifth in 2:00.04.<\/p>\n<p>CSP Tideriders&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Evie Pfeifer<\/strong> finished sixth in 2:00.13, followed by Longhorn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Regan Barney<\/strong> (2:01.42) and Sierra Marlins&#8217; Dasha Pastushenko\u00a0(2:02.30).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>In the lead for the entire race, Sierra Marlins&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Bryce Mefford<\/strong> had to work hard on the way home to maintain the advantage. But he managed to do so and won by a half-second, touching in 1:45.46.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Liang<\/strong> from\u00a0Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics posed the biggest challenge on the freestyle leg, but he had to settle for second in 1:45.98. Just behind was Pikes Peak&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniel Carr<\/strong> in 1:46.09.<\/p>\n<p>St. Croix&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Shane Blinkman<\/strong> got in for fourth in 1:46.61, and\u00a0<strong>Shaine Casas\u00a0<\/strong>finished next in 1:47.59.<\/p>\n<p>Lane Four Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Caleb Aman<\/strong> finished sixth in 1:47.73, followed by Jeffco Hurricanes&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Michael Zarian<\/strong> (1:48.15). Austin Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Willinbring<\/strong> was disqualified in the &#8220;A&#8221; final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Free<\/h3>\n<p>Waves Bloomington&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grace Ariola\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the win in the girls&#8217; splash-and-dash as she touched out Aquazot&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Eva Merrell<\/strong>, 22.20 to 22.26.<\/p>\n<p>CATS&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Daria Pyshnenko<\/strong> and Davis Aquadarts&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Amalie Fackenthal<\/strong> tied for third with matching marks of 22.38.<\/p>\n<p>Aggie&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Julia Cook\u00a0<\/strong>(22.50), Fort Collins&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Kylee Alons\u00a0<\/strong>(22.57), Quicksilver&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lauren Green<\/strong> (22.61) and SOCAL&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Elise Garcia<\/strong> (22.96) also made the &#8220;A&#8221; final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Ryan Hoffer\u00a0<\/strong>blasted out a monster swim in the men&#8217;s 50 free, winning by a full bodylength and touching in 18.71, lowering his personal best of 18.88 from the morning prelims and tying Olympic gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Nathan Adrian&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>pool record in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Hoffer won the race by more than a second as Dads Club Swim Team&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clayton Bobo\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 19.90, becoming the only other swimmer to break 20 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shaine Casas<\/strong> took third in 20.16, while Sierra Marlins&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Bryce Mefford<\/strong>, after winning the 200 IM earlier, returned to finish fourth in 20.24.<\/p>\n<p>Scottsdale&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jack Blake<\/strong> (20.39), North Texas Nadadores&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Jack LeVant<\/strong> (20.40), Austin Swim Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Willenbring<\/strong> (20.55) and Truckee-Tahoe&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cooper Deryk<\/strong> (20.72) also swam in the championship final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p>Fort Collins dominated the relay by more than four-and-a-half seconds as\u00a0<strong>Bayley Stewart<\/strong> (53.97),\u00a0<strong>Zoe Bartel<\/strong> (59.19),\u00a0<strong>Coleen Gillilan<\/strong> (52.72) and\u00a0<strong>Kylie Alons<\/strong> (49.24) finished in 3:35.12.<\/p>\n<p>Santa Clara Swim Club finished second in 3:39.69 with\u00a0<strong>Nicola Oliva<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jenny Ma<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Cathy Teng<\/strong> in the water, and Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics&#8217; team of\u00a0<strong>Zoe Lusk<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Grace Zhao<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Gabrielle Anderson<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Isabelle Henig<\/strong> was a tenth back in third, touching in 3:39.79.<\/p>\n<p>Brea Aquatics (3:40.43), Waves Bloomington (3:40.57), Austin Swim Club (3:40.68), Aquazot (3:41.41) and Davis Aquadarts (3:42.28) finished in the top eight.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p>Scottsdale Aquatic Club picked up the win in the men&#8217;s relay in 3:14.83 with <strong>Ryan Hoffer\u00a0<\/strong>(46.51),\u00a0<strong>Sean Gage\u00a0<\/strong>(55.32),\u00a0<strong>David Hudson<\/strong> (48.65) and\u00a0<strong>Jack<\/strong><strong> Blake\u00a0<\/strong>(23.48) competing.<\/p>\n<p>Nitro&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Isaa Gwin<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Ryan Geheb<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Matthew Connealy<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Corban Rawls<\/strong> finished second in 3:17.19, and third went to Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Alex Liang<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Maximillian Pokutta<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Albert Gwo<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Michael Lincoln<\/strong> in 3:17.44.<\/p>\n<p>Other teams in the top eight included Mission Viejo (3:20.44), Terrapins (3:21.16), Lakeside (3:21.36), Sierra Marlins (3:21.70) and Irvine Novaquatics (3:21.73).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read below for all of our coverage of day two finals of the 2016 Speedo Winter Junior Championships West in College Station, Texas.
