Morozov is the current world record holder in this event with a time of 50.30 that he set in August.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> of the USA snagged the second place seed with a 52.58, while the Japanese duo of\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Shinri Shioura<\/strong> finished third and fourth in prelims respectively. Seto stopped the clock at a 52.76 over Shioura&#8217;s 52.86.<\/p>\n<p>Returning as the fifth place seed is Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jack Gerrard\u00a0<\/strong>with a time of 52.89, followed by a tie for sixth between China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Wang Shun<\/strong> and Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Philip Heintz<\/strong>. Wang and Heintz posted matching times of 52.91 from heat eight.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Kyle Stolk<\/strong> rounded out the top eight with a time of 53.07.<\/p>\n<p>Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andreas Vazaios<\/strong> (53.19), Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mark Szaranek<\/strong> (53.40), Portugal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexis Santos<\/strong> (53.41),\u00a0Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simon Sjodin<\/strong> (53.44), Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>David Foldhazi\u00a0<\/strong>(53.47), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniil Pakhomov<\/strong> (53.48), Norway&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Markus Lie<\/strong> (53.53), and Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Fabio Scozzoli<\/strong> (53.57) return as ninth through sixteenth.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Fly:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Kelsi Worrell<\/strong> of the USA blasted the competition in prelims of the women&#8217;s 50 fly, posting the only sub-25 second time. Worrell posted a new American Record en route to her top seed time of 24.94. The previous record of 25.65 belonged to\u00a0<strong>Christine Magnussen<\/strong> from two separate semi-finals heats in 2010 and 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Silvia Di Pietro<\/strong> finished second overall in prelims with a time of 25.37, followed closely by Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeanette Ottesen\u00a0<\/strong>and her time of 25.38.<\/p>\n<p>Japan sprint sensation\u00a0<strong>Rikako Ikee\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a qualifying time of 25.55 to return as fourth, just ahead of The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Maaike De Waard\u00a0<\/strong>(25.62) and France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Melanie Henique<\/strong> (25.65).<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Washer\u00a0<\/strong>and Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emilie Beckmann<\/strong> completed the top eight with matching time of 25.88 from heats six and eighth respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katerine Savard<\/strong> (25.96), the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Gibson\u00a0<\/strong>(25.98), Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sara Junevik<\/strong> (26.06), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Svetlana Chimrova<\/strong> (26.11), Belgium&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kimberly Buys<\/strong> (26.11), Czech Republic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lucie Svecena<\/strong> (26.18), Iceland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bryndis Hansen<\/strong> (26.22), and Slovakia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nastja Govejsek\u00a0<\/strong>(26.26) complete the top sixteen qualifiers.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Back:<\/h3>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Junya Koga<\/strong> posted the only sub-23 second swim in prelims of the men&#8217;s 50 backstroke, stopping the clock at a 22.93 to return as the top seed in tonight&#8217;s semi-finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeremy Stravius<\/strong> of France grabbed the second place seed with a 23.09, while China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Xu Jiayu\u00a0<\/strong>delivered a 23.42 to return as the third place seed.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Miguel Ortiz-Canavate<\/strong> and Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Pavel\u00a0Yankovich\u00a0<\/strong>turned in matching times of 23.47 to tie for the fourth place seed, while Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tomasz\u00a0<\/strong><b>Polewka<\/b> finished sixth in prelims with a 23.50.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong> of Australia picked up the seventh place seed with a 23.57, just ahead of Venezuela&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Albert\u00a0<\/strong><b>Subirats<\/b> and his time of 23.59.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> (23.70), Romania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Glinta<\/strong> (23.70), Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bobby Hurley<\/strong> (23.71), Turkey&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Iskender Baslakov<\/strong> (23.83), USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michael Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>(23.87), USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jacob Pebley<\/strong> (23.88), Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maseki Kaneko<\/strong> (23.89), and\u00a0<strong>Viktar Staselovich\u00a0<\/strong>(23.98) rounded out the top sixteen.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Individual Medley:<\/h3>\n<p>Jamaica&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alia Atkinson\u00a0<\/strong>topped a star-studded field in prelims of the women&#8217;s 100 individual medley with a top qualifying time of 58.47.<\/p>\n<p>Atkinson will be joined in tonight&#8217;s semi-finals by Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>, the current world record holder in this event, who touched second overall with a 58.87.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Seebohm\u00a0<\/strong>qualified third with a 59.16, followed by Finland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jenna Laukkanen<\/strong> and her time of 59.67.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lena Kreundl<\/strong> of Austria took fifth in prelims with a 59.81, just ahead of The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Marrit\u00a0<\/strong><b>Steenbergen&#8217;s<\/b> 59.82.<\/p>\n<p>The USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ella Eastin\u00a0<\/strong>and Belgium&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Fanny Lecluyse<\/strong> completed the top eight qualifiers with times of 1:00.40 and 1:00.58 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Darcel\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.70), Norway&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Susann Bjornsen<\/strong> (1:00.70), Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yui Ohashi<\/strong> (1:00.75), Iceland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hrafnhildur Luthersdottir<\/strong> (1:00.79), the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lilly King<\/strong> (1:00.84), Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Evelin Verraszto<\/strong> (1:00.95), China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sun Meichen\u00a0<\/strong>(1:00.99), and Finland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Fanny Teijonsalo<\/strong> (1:01.21) will complete the semi-final heats.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Free:<\/h3>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> picked up a second top seed in the men&#8217;s splash and dash. Morozov powered to a top qualifying time of 21.27, followed closely by South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Douglas Erasmus<\/strong> and his time of 21.31.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jesse Puts<\/strong> of The Netherlands delivered a 21.42 to qualify third for tonight&#8217;s semi-finals, just ahead of Lithuania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simonas Bilis\u00a0<\/strong>(21.43) and Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kenta Ito<\/strong> (21.45).<\/p>\n<p>Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kristian Gkolomeev\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a 21.47 for the sixth place seed, while Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Luca Dotto\u00a0<\/strong>picked up seventh with a 21.50.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Chadwick<\/strong> of the USA rounded out the top eight qualifiers with a time of 21.56.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniel Hunter<\/strong> (21.59), Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maksim Lobanovskii<\/strong> (21.59), USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Paul Powers<\/strong> (21.60), Croatia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mislav Sever<\/strong> (21.63), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Aleksei Brianskii<\/strong> (21.67), France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clement Mignon\u00a0<\/strong>(21.69), and Finland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ari-Pekka Liukkonen\u00a0<\/strong>(21.71) posted ninth through sixteenth place finishes.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Back:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Daryna Zevina<\/strong> of Ukraine outlasted the competition in prelims of the women&#8217;s 200 back with a qualifying time .52 seconds ahead of the competition. Zevina stopped the clock at a 2:02.87 to return as the top seed in tonight&#8217;s 200 back final.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>, the world record holder in this event, qualified second overall with a time of 2:03.39, cruising to an easy finish from heat four of five.<\/p>\n<p>Hometown favorite\u00a0<strong>Hilary Caldwell\u00a0<\/strong>grabbed the third place seed with a 2:03.74, followed closely by the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hellen Moffitt<\/strong> and her time of 2:03.83.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Seebohm\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the fifth place seed with a 2:03.91, ahead of the Japanese duo of\u00a0<strong>Sayaka Akase<\/strong> (2:04.63) and\u00a0<strong>Miki Takahashi\u00a0<\/strong>(2:04.76).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kathleen Dawson<\/strong> of Great Britain rounded out the qualifiers with a time of 2:05.12.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Breast:<\/h3>\n<p>Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marco Koch\u00a0<\/strong>continued to dominate the men&#8217;s breaststroke events with a top showing in prelims of the men&#8217;s 200 breaststroke. Koch turned in a 2:03.69 to grab the top seed going into tonight&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrew Willis<\/strong> of Great Britain grabbed the second place seed with a qualifying time of 2:03.88, while Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mikhail Dorinov<\/strong> posted a 2:04.19 to pick up the third place seed.<\/p>\n<p>The USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Prenot<\/strong> earned the fourth place seed with a qualifying time of 2:04.52, followed closely by Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ilya Khomenko<\/strong> and his time of 2:04.63.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yukihiro Takahashi<\/strong>\u00a0and the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nic Fink\u00a0<\/strong>posted matching times of 2:04.69 from heats six and five respectively to tie for sixth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Erik Persson<\/strong> of Sweden completed the top eight qualifiers with a time of 2:04.93.<\/p>\n<h3>Mixed 4&#215;50 Medley Relay:<\/h3>\n<p>The USA topped the prelims field of the mixed 4&#215;50 medley relay with a qualifying time of 1:38.82.\u00a0<strong>Ali DeLoof<\/strong> led off for Team USA with a split of 26.18, giving\u00a0<strong>Cody Miller<\/strong> (25.82) plenty of room to take off in the breaststroke leg.\u00a0<strong>Matthew Josa<\/strong> split a 22.71 in the butterfly to hold the lead, while\u00a0<strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong> brought the race home with a split of 24.11.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian Federation and Brazil picked up the second and third place seeds in heat three after a strong duel between the members of their relays. Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grigory Tarasevich\u00a0<\/strong>(23.73),\u00a0<strong>Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> (25.75),\u00a0<strong>Svetlana Chimrova<\/strong> (25.79), and\u00a0<strong>Rozaliya Nasretdinova\u00a0<\/strong>(24.09) posted a combined time of 1:39.36 to return as the second place seed.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil settled for the third place seed and a combined time of 1:39.52 thanks to strong swims by\u00a0<strong>Etiene Medeiros<\/strong> (26.18),\u00a0<strong>Felipe Lima<\/strong> (25.70),\u00a0<strong>Nicholas Santos\u00a0<\/strong>(22.57), and\u00a0<strong>Larissa Oliveira<\/strong> (25.07).<\/p>\n<p>Canada claimed the fourth place seed with a time of 1:39.63, while Italy posted a 1:40.17 for fifth.<\/p>\n<p>China (1:40.26), Japan (1:40.47), and Sweden (1:40.49) qualified sixth through eighth respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read below to find our full coverage of day three prelims of the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships.
