The MAP Awards reward Singapore athletes who earn medals at major competitions, including the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and Southeast Asian Games.<\/p>\n<p>Currently referred to as the Sustainability, Growth, and People Fund (SGP Fund), the Schooling&#8217;s donation joins a contribution of S$525,100 from a golf fundraiser headlined by Joseph during a trip home in November 2016.<\/p>\n<p>While there Schooling used his personal journey as inspiration for needing greater support for up-and-coming athletes, a journey that has included moving to the USA for Schooling to attend the Bolles School in Florida, before the University of Texas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May Schooling<\/strong> commented,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We&#8217;re trying to change the landscape of how sports should be. We are honored to have the opportunity to give back to the association, and have Joseph leave a legacy for aspiring athletes. We hope that this will be a form of inspiration and encouragement for our local athletes to excel in the sport and achieve great results for our nation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>An independent committee is being set up by the SSA to watch over the new fund consisting of people from inside and outside of the swimming community. SSA President\u00a0<strong>Lee Kok Choy\u00a0<\/strong>explained that this will be to ensure neutrality of the committee so that all decision are made in a &#8220;fair and transparent manner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Choy added,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The amount donated by the Schoolings is unprecedented and will help in the development of the sport, from long-term athlete development to enhancing the standard of coaching.
