Park then blasted away on the way home to win by almost a full second.<\/p>\n<p>Park swam a time of 3:34.59, while Krashnykh came in second at 3:35.30. The time moved Park to fifth all-time in the event, while Krashnykh moved ahead of countryman\u00a0<strong>Nikita Lobintsev<\/strong> into ninth all-time.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Peter Bernek<\/strong>, the gold medalist in the event at the last Short Course World Championships in Doha in 2014, finished with the bronze, posting a time of 3:37.65.<\/p>\n<p>Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Wojciech Wojdak<\/strong> just missed out on the medals, finishing fourth in 3:37.90, and France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jordan Pothain<\/strong> was fifth in 3:39.35. The Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Maarten Brzoskowski<\/strong> (3:39.31), the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zane Grothe<\/strong> and Great Britains&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Stephen Milne\u00a0<\/strong>(3:43.63) completed the final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Free Final<\/h3>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini<\/strong> waited her turn and then stormed past Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> to win the Short Course World title in the women&#8217;s 200 free.<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu led through the 175-meter mark, but Pellegrini pulled ahead on the last 25 to take the win. Pellegrini&#8217;s final time was 1:51.73, while Hosszu finished second in 1:52.28.<\/p>\n<p>16-year-old Canadian\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> took down the Canadian record and took the bronze, coming in at 1:52.50.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Veronika Popova<\/strong> finished just out of the medals in fourth, posting a time of 1:53.39, and the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong>, competing in her first international final,\u00a0was fifth in 1:53.79.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katerine Savard<\/strong> (1:54.21), the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.49) and Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Manuella Lyrio<\/strong> (1:55.51) also swam in the final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Back Semifinals<\/h3>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrei Shabashov<\/strong> blasted the field in the first semifinal of the men&#8217;s 100 back, and he held on to take the top seed overall for the finals, which will go off Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Shabashov posted a time of 49.71, well ahead of China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Xu Jiayu<\/strong>, the Olympic silver medalist in the event, who came in at 49.99.\u00a0<strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong>, last year&#8217;s World Champion in the long course version of the event who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mitch-larkin-competing-at-short-course-worlds-with-knee-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\">dealing with a balky knee<\/a>, qualified third in 50.10.<\/p>\n<p>Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Radoslaw Kawecki<\/strong> was next in 50.17, ahead of Romania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Glinta<\/strong> (50.37) and Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> (50.54).<\/p>\n<p>The USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jacob Pebley<\/strong> finished seventh in 50.56, and Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Junya Koga\u00a0<\/strong>took eighth in 50.59.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Breast Semifinals<\/h3>\n<p>Jamaica&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alia Atkinson<\/strong> edged out\u00a0the USA&#8217;s <strong>Lilly King<\/strong> in the second semifinal of the women&#8217;s 50 breast at the Short Course World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Atkinson posted the top time with a 29.09, well off her own world record of 28.64 set in October in Tokyo, while King&#8217;s time of 29.17 improved her to fifth all-time in the event. King broke\u00a0<strong>Katie Meili&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>American record of 29.37 in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Another American,\u00a0<strong>Molly Hannis<\/strong>, qualified third in 29.88, rounding out the sub-30-second performers.<\/p>\n<p>Finland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jenna Laukkanen<\/strong> finished fourth in 30.06, ahead of Belgium&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Fanny Lecluyse<\/strong> (30.17), Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jessica Hansen<\/strong> (30.22), Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Natalia Ivaneeva<\/strong> (30.30) and Norway&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Susann Bjornsen<\/strong> (30.33).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Fly Final<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Chad le Clos<\/strong> won a third Short Course World title in the men&#8217;s 200 fly, coming from behind with a stellar last 25 to run down\u00a0<strong>Tom Shields\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Le Clos touched in 1:48.76, just missing his own world record of 1:48.56 and recording the third-fastest performance of all time.<\/p>\n<p>The USA&#8217;s Shields, swimming out of lane eight, had the lead at the 150 and 175 walls but ended up with the silver medal in 1:49.50, just missing his own American record of 1:49.05. Japan&#8217;s Seto got the bronze in 1:49.97.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Aleksandr Kharlanov<\/strong>, who actually had the top seed out of prelims and was in contention for the first 150 meters, ended up fourth in 1:51.41.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Leonardo De Deus<\/strong> finished fifth in 1:52.65, just touching out Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Viktor Bromer<\/strong> (1:52.68). The USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Pace Clark\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.15) and Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nao Horomura<\/strong> (1:53.64) also competed in the final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 400 IM Final<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> obliterated the field in the women&#8217;s 400 IM. Already up by almost a bodylength after 50 meters, Hosszu pulled away and was ahead by almost 15 meters at the end. Her final time of 4:21.67 was just over two seconds off her own world record of 4:19.46.<\/p>\n<p>Vietnam&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anh Vien Nguyen<\/strong> was in second for the entire race and appeared to touch second, but she was disqualified for not touching the wall on her back at the halfway point. That paved the way for the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong> to take the silver medal in 4:27.74. Another American,\u00a0<strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong>, finished just four one-hundredths behind for the bronze (4:27.78).<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hannah Miley\u00a0<\/strong>just missed out on the podium with a fourth-place time of 4:27.86. Spain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mireia Belmonte<\/strong>, the defending champion and Olympic bronze medalist in the event, surprisingly finished well out of contention with a fifth-place time of 4:32.98.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yui Ohashi<\/strong> (4:33.07) and the Czech Republic&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Barbora Zavadova<\/strong> (4:37.79) also made the championship final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Breast Semifinals<\/h3>\n<p>Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marco Koch<\/strong> maintained his fastest seed out of prelims, posting a time of 56.86 to earn lane four for Wednesday night&#8217;s semifinal in the men&#8217;s 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Felipe Franca Silva<\/strong> qualified second in 56.99, touching just one one-hundredth ahead of Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> in their heat. Morozov earned lane three for the final in 57.00.<\/p>\n<p>Americans\u00a0<strong>Nic Fink<\/strong> (57.10) and\u00a0<strong>Cody Miller<\/strong> (57.14) were next, and Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Fabio Scozzoli<\/strong> was close behind in sixth place in 57.22.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Oleg Kostin<\/strong> qualified seventh in 57.52, and Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Ilya Shmanovich<\/strong> finished eighth in 57.65, just ahead of South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong>. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the event posted a time of 57.67, missing the final by just two one-hundredths of a second.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Back Semifinals<\/h3>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kylie Masse<\/strong> picked up the top seed in the women&#8217;s 100 back in the last semifinal of the first night of action in Windsor. Masse touched in a time of 56.19 to win the second semifinal and pick up lane four for Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> qualified second in 56.44, and Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Georgia Davies\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 56.69, followed by American\u00a0<strong>Ali DeLoof<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>, competing in her third race in less than 90 minutes, picked up the fifth transfer spot into the final with a time of 56.74, but her 56.16 from prelims would have earned her the top seed. Hosszu holds the world record in the event at 55.03, set on her way to gold in the event two years ago in Doha.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mie Nielsen<\/strong> qualified sixth in 56.96, followed by Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kathleen Dawson<\/strong> (57.03) and Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daryna Zevina<\/strong> (57.07).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 IM Final<\/h3>\n<p>China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Wang Shun<\/strong> had to work hard over the last 50 yards, but he managed to hold Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Phillip Heintz\u00a0<\/strong>and win his first World title in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Wang, who won an Olympic bronze medal in the event this summer in Rio, touched in 1:51.74, just three tenths of a second ahead of Heintz, who was closing in on the final 50 meters.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto<\/strong>, who earlier earned in the night picked up a bronze in the 200 fly, will stand on the third-place podium again after finishing in 1:52.89, finishing just two one-hundredths ahead of the USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Prenot<\/strong>, who finished fourth in 1:52.91.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> finished fifth in 1:53.47, while Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mark Szaranek<\/strong> finished well back in sixth in 1:54.45.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Takeharu Fujimori<\/strong> (1:55.51) and Greece&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andreas Vazaios<\/strong> (1:55.80) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 400 Free Relay<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Amanda Weir<\/strong> had the Americans in fourth place after the first 100 meters, but\u00a0<strong>Kelsi Worrell\u00a0<\/strong>quickly established a big lead, splitting an insane 51.04 on the second leg, and\u00a0<strong>Madison Kennedy<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong> held on to pick up the gold medal.<\/p>\n<p>That quartet posted a time of 3:28.82 to win the gold medal as Comerford split 51.99 to hold off Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Penny Oleksiak<\/strong>. But the Canadian team ended up getting disqualified,\u00a0leaving Italy with silver and the Netherlands bronze.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian squad was slated to swim with a team of\u00a0<strong>Sandrine Mainville<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Alexia Zevnik<\/strong>,\u00a0Oleksiak and\u00a0<strong>Michelle Williams<\/strong>, but Williams ended up swimming the third leg and Oleksiak anchoring. That procedural issue resulted in the DQ.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s squad of\u00a0<strong>Erika Ferraioli<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Silvia Di Pietro<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Aglaia Pezzato<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini<\/strong> posted a time of 3:30.28, and the\u00a0<strong>Maud Van Der Meer<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Marrit Steenbergen<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Maaike De Waard<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> clocked 3:31.10.<\/p>\n<p>Australia finished just off the podium in fourth, posting a 3:31.31 as Pellegrini overtook\u00a0<strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> (52.00) on the anchor leg. Japan (3:34.09), France (3:35.13) and China (3:36.01) all competed in the final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> went into the water for the third leg on Russia&#8217;s 400 free relay in third place, but he blasted a 45.42 split, by far the fastest in the field, and\u00a0<strong>Aleksandr Popkov<\/strong> held on to give the Russians the gold.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nikita Lobintsev<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mikhail Vekovishchev<\/strong>, Morozov and Popkov combined to post a time of 3:05.90, winning by 1.45 seconds ahead of France.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clement Mignon<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jeremy Stravius<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jordan Pothain<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Mehdy Metella<\/strong> combined to post a time of 3:07.35 for silver, and the United States and Australia actually tied for bronze.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brayden McCarthy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Daniel Smith<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>David Morgan<\/strong> were in fourth at the 300-meter mark, but\u00a0<strong>Tomasso D&#8217;Orsogna<\/strong> split 45.87 on the anchor leg to get in on equal terms with the Americans.\u00a0<strong>Michael Chadwick<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Tom Shields<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Paul Powers\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong>, who anchored in 46.02, swam for the Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Japan ended up fifth in 3:09.75, just ahead of the Netherlands (3:09.87) and Canada (3:09.96).
